In the modern world, "improvisation" is a term that has long gone beyond creativity. It is found in cooking and on television, in jurisdiction and even in science. What semantic load does this word carry? How to decipher it and which side is best to consider?
General interpretation
The term "improvisation" is a modified Latin word improviso, which translates to "without preparation". This is how they describe the technique of creativity, in which the creation and execution of a certain idea is carried out simultaneously. Sometimes for improvisation a specific topic is chosen, which helps the author direct his efforts in a certain direction. Well, it happens that improvisation is created without any stylistic restrictions.
This term is widely used in all areas of creativity: in painting and sculpture, in music and literature, in dancing, ballet performances and opera numbers. Recently, improvisation has migrated to everyday life and has become an integral part of almost all spheres of human activity.
Improvisation in music
Since school times, all musicians are well aware of a certain composition technique. The bottom line is that on the exam you must complete your creation, writing it literally right away. Often, teachers set the subject and even determine the musical form - a play, nocturne, rondo, sonata, etc. The tonality in which you need to play improvisation, tempo and number of measures can be chosen.
Such clear boundaries, as a rule, are set for students who are weak in composition, but it is not difficult for them to masterfully perform an already written work. If the student has creative skills, the conditions by which he needs to compose becomes much less. And it’s worth separately emphasizing that musical improvisation is an ephemeral thing, it is impossible to repeat or remember it. The only way to capture such a composition is through audio and video recordings.
Painting and sculpture
These types of art are already material, that is, they can be felt and examined. Therefore, the essence of pictorial improvisation is that the artist paints without a sketch, without preliminary sketches and without drafts. As in music, they can ask a certain topic, or they can miss this moment.
As a result, a picture is obtained that does not accurately convey proportions, shades and colors, but it openly demonstrates to the public the mood of its author and his state of mind. Some believe that improvisation on canvas caused styles such as impressionism and expressionism.
Literature and Rhetoric
A best-selling author always has the opportunity to throw away a draft, correct his text, and correct mistakes. His colleague, who improvises on paper, does not have such a privilege. The main task - using one attempt, correctly, concisely and on the topic to write a story, article, poem, etc.
A similar requirement is faced by speakers who speak to the public. They can no longer be guided by a leaflet with a text prepared in advance, since they must in a coherent and intelligible way explain to the public a particular issue, relying solely on their logic and eloquence. Of course, in this case, the best improvisation is a prepared improvisation, consisting of facts and truths that you can rely on. Therefore, many representatives of such professions adopt this statement, remember all the most basic, and the rest is applied along the way.
Theater and Cinema
For many actors, improvisation is an integral part of creativity. They play, composing on the go in the frame and on stage, thereby making the picture truly ingenious. This feature is often attributed to Hollywood stars - Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Nicholson and many others. What can we say about Hollywood, if such an art form was successful in ancient Rome! It was there that the actors first began to “arbitrarily” on the stage, voicing not only the dialogues of their own production, but also inventing new events that change the course of the script.
Modern dance
To dance without any preparation is a talent that is not for everyone, therefore a genre called “contact improvisation” was created on its basis. This is a special kind of modern dance in which there is a certain point of contact with a partner.
Both participants in this action continuously touch each other, but constantly shift their point of contact. In parallel, they make improvisational movements to the music, rolling through each other, performing plie, jumping and other tricks.
In order to perform contact improvisation, it is not necessary to have a banner or own any technique. One has only to feel the music and his partner, as well as visually imagine how this or that figure that you are going to portray will look from the side.
You probably already understood that you can improvise always and everywhere: in the kitchen, inventing new recipes, at work, doing it differently, as always, and in everyday conversations with people around you.
