Gennady Ivanovich Kostylev is a legendary figure in sports. He was a footballer under the Soviet Union and a coach of the Russian team. In addition, he has been a master of sports since 1963.
Biography
Gennady Kostylev was born on September 27, 1940 in the village of Konstantinovka, Stalin Region (now Donetsk Region, Ukraine). He is one of the prominent pupils of the Moscow Youth Football School. At that time, this school prepared young football players for professional sports. Many successful players of that time were graduates of this particular institution. In the Soviet Union for a long time there were no sports schools at least similar in level to the FSM of Moscow.
Gennady Kostylev loved football so much that he devoted all his free time to additional individual training. So he achieved success and already at the age of eighteen he began his successful football career.
The beginning of a big sport
The first team advocated by Gennady was Energia from the city of Volzhsky. The first year (1958-1959) he devoted it to her. The team was strong enough, but not at the level at which such a footballer was supposed to play. No wonder he played for her only a year.
In 1960, representatives of the Zenit team noticed Gennady and invited to work with them. In Izhevsk, the football player left for the new team immediately, without hesitation. This served as a big jerk in his stellar career. He played for Zenit for three years. But in 1964 he was forced to leave his favorite team and go to the Volga from the city of Gorky. In this team, he managed to play only two years, after which he returned to Zenit and played for this team for another three years.
Increase
In 1968, when Gennady Kostylev was still playing at Zenit, he received an offer to take the place of senior coach of the RSFSR Football Department. Undoubtedly, the proposal was accepted, and at the same time he did not stop playing in the team. But, after two years, it became difficult to combine training and field trips with such a position. In 1970, he left the Zenit team and continued to work as a head coach at the Office. It was hard for him to part with the team, but luck smiled again, and in 1974 he became the head coach of the Zenit home team in Izhevsk.
From that moment on, his coaching career went only up. He was in great demand. Many teams wanted to see him in the role of head coach, there were a lot of job offers. Gennady did not refuse, tried himself in different teams. After Zenit, until 1983, he coached two more teams: Builder in Cherepovets and Rubin in Kazan.
Main achievement
Since 1984, Gennady Kostylev as the head coach has been preparing youth teams of the USSR for the championships for seven years. His work was a great success: the teams won the cups and brought glory to the Soviet Union.
Since 1992, Gennady became a football coach at CSKA. This year, the second leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League took place with the Spanish team Barcelona. This team was considered the strongest among all the football teams of that time. No one hoped for the victory of the Russian national team, however, under the leadership of Gennady Kostylev, CSKA won this match with a score of 3: 2. This news shocked the whole world.
It all started pretty monotonously. Barcelona began to lead from the first minute. The players were strong and assertive, which confused our guys. In the first half of the match the score was 0: 2 in favor of Spain. But, having gathered, the players of CSKA scored the first goal. This is what cheered up the players. A few minutes later the second goal followed, and the score was even - 2: 2. Gennady Ivanovich himself said that after that he was calm. But the third decisive blow put the Russian team in the lead.
This is what became the most important achievement of Russian football, which everyone remembers with trepidation to this day. After that, Gennady Ivanovich entered the history of football forever as a coach of CSKA.
On this his career did not end. He continued to train junior teams, as well as many Russian ones: Arsenal, Irtysh-1946, Torpedo-ZIL, Rotor, Krasnoznamensk and Titan.
From 2004 to 2008, he stayed on the Saturn team in the city of Remensky. But in 2009, he moved to the capital, where he holds the post of head coach of the backup team of the Moscow football club to this day.
Undoubtedly, Gennady Ivanovich Kostylev is deservedly a legendary person. He was able to help many teams improve, reach new heights and go to another level. He made a huge contribution to the development of football both as a player and as a coach.
