What are genetically modified foods

We live in an amazing time: from TV screens and pages of online publications, a tremendous amount of information is falling daily on a person devoted to global warming, oil reserves, and new diseases. Among this diversity, a significant part of the articles falls on genetically modified products. Actually, even if you don’t hear anything about it, you won’t be able to completely isolate yourself from the information. The fact is that, in accordance with the law, products containing GMOs undergo mandatory special labeling, which is simply impossible not to notice on the packaging. This is the same sign "Without GMOs."

What does the term “genetically modified organisms” (GMOs) mean? According to the classical definition, these are living plant or animal organisms, the genes of which were modified by humans in order to obtain new properties. It is obscure, is not it?

To understand what genetically modified foods are, let's turn to explanatory analogies. One biblical story tells of grapes whose berries were so large that even two strong men had to carry one twig. Unbelievable! If such giant products had appeared on the market, the problem of hunger in developing countries would be solved once and for all. Alas, even the use of the most advanced fertilizers, although it increases productivity, is still very far from the one mentioned in the Bible.

The appearance of high-yielding varieties of vegetables and fruits would allow:

- reduce the landing area, and in the liberated territories break up forests, create ponds, plant flower fields;

- release a significant part of the population employed in agricultural production;

- reduce the dependence of agricultural technologies on weather conditions, because it is much easier to organize watering 10 acres than 10 hectares;

- reduce the cost of such food products due to less labor costs for their cultivation.

All this and even more are “promised" to humanity by genetically modified products. Alas, there are more controversial issues in this matter than obvious advantages. The fact is that many sources claim that genetically modified foods are not only harmful, but deadly. In this article we will not list the dangers of such food - this information has long been publicly available.

A person interested in this issue, it makes sense to turn to the works of recognized scientists. One of them is Peter Garyaev, who is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His work is directly related to genetics, so a person knows what he is talking about. Garyaev argues that genetics cannot be considered only from a mechanistic point of view. An attempt to intervene in its mechanisms without a complete understanding of the principles of operation can be compared with the repair of an electronic device using scrap. It is also very interesting to familiarize yourself with the book by W. Engdahl “Seeds of Destruction” - its peculiarity is that the author gives facts, most of which can be easily verified with access to the global network.

We will touch upon the question “is it possible to avoid the use of GMOs”. For some, this will be a revelation, but the answer, unfortunately, is negative. Genetically modified foods surround us everywhere. When buying milk labeled “Without GMOs,” you cannot be sure that the cow was fed with natural beets and grain. By the way, since the latter is now ALL genetically modified, bread, flour, pasta, and pastries are potentially dangerous. Corn, rice, soybeans - these crops were the first to undergo changes, as they are fundamental in the food chain of most world nations. Accordingly, the interest in them from the multinational agribusiness corporations is the highest.

Currently, the only way to avoid the use of GMOs is to use those plants that are not of interest to the agricultural industry as food.
