North Korea is a small state in East Asia with the capital Pyongyang. It borders with South Korea, China and the Russian Federation. It is washed by the Yellow and Japanese Seas.

State symbols were adopted in 1948. The DPRK flag has the shape of a rectangle, and the aspect ratio is 2: 1. The rectangle is horizontally divided into 5 unequal stripes. The middle part has a red palette, which shows a white disk located closer to the shaft. A five-pointed star of the same palette as the background of the canvas is inscribed in the white disk. The edges of the disk are in contact with the edges of the star. The red canvas is divided by subtle stripes of white color, followed by the upper and lower blue stripes.

The end of World War II was the beginning of the struggle of North Korea with Japan. During this period, the government used the flag of the pre-colonial period, which had the name of the Flag of the Great Principles. The DPRK flag at that time was white with an image in the center. The figure symbolizes the highest harmony and structure of the world, which recalls the eternal struggle of yin and yang. This emblem means constant forward movement. The DPRK flag replaced the Flag of the Great Beginnings in 1948 and became a national symbol.
