The first part of The Expendables, which exploded in 2010, delighted with the general bold design and its implementation, but when watching a sequel, the audience’s delight literally turns into puppy. And not only because in the movie “The Expendables-2” (2012), the actors of the original part received significant replenishment in the form of no less legendary heroes, but also from competent directing, a mass of killer humor and worthy healthy self-irony.
Plot
The script for the movie The Expendables 2 (2012), whose actors and roles currently have a cult status, is very steep. For individual fragments, you can trace the plot. Gene Villan (J.-K. Van Damme), an evil terrorist of international importance, having learned that vast plutonium reserves have been buried in the vast expanses of the Russian Federation, decides to take them in hand. Stop the attacker entrusted to a detachment of mercenaries led by Barney Ross (S. Stallone), especially since he has personal scores for the criminal. Barney is traditionally assisted by the characters of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and Dolph Lundgren. Also, the team is joined by newcomers played by Liam Hemsworth, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nan Yu. Does the hero Van Damme have any chances if the bullets reaching the legendary fighters either melt from fear or, turning around are coming back home?
Encore
Sylvester Stallone acted very thoughtfully, giving the directorial chair of the blockbuster The Expendables-2 (2012) to another artisan, Simon West. Due to the replacement of the director, the project got a fresh view from the side, which distanced the narrative from the old school of the first part. In the 2010 cinema, the genre itself was mainly paid in itself; in the second of the unfolding action, Simon built an enchanting atmosphere. Stallone, freed from the burden of directorial responsibility, looks many times more natural in the company of comradely actors who give out such pearls and tweaks that it is impossible to restrain laughter.
The Expendables-2 (2012) is an amazing action movie in which action episodes and scenes are equivalent, in which the characters simply speak serenely, mocking each other sincerely. This despite the fact that the moments of combat battles fences nowhere. The synthesis of modern combat choreography and the old school, when the characters, using all kinds of weapons, mow down enemies with hundreds without getting a scratch, is ideal. Here is Jet Li, skillfully working in frying pans, Statham, a censer, and, of course, heavy artillery in the form of Norris and Schwarzenegger with colossal guns.
Affectionate word and bones ache
Struggles by fights, but in the film “The Expendables-2” (2012), the actors manage to communicate. Dialogues are the main charm of the picture. This is just a sight for sore eyes, and most importantly, very funny. Lundgren practically unceasingly gives hilarious mimic sketches, and Statham’s conversations with Stallone are filled with spontaneity, which is fully penetrated. A more or less sane veteran in this whole situation is Chuck Norris, accustomed to the fate of a lively Internet meme. The name of his character is Walker, the nickname is Lone Wolf. The hero appears literally for five minutes, during this short period of time managing to eliminate the army of enemies, tell Barney an old joke about himself. Norris manages to bring his cameo to the point of absurdity. Other actors of the movie The Expendables-2 (2012) are not far behind him.
The abundance of charisma
Direct references to their past characters, the use of nicknames and quotes (here, of course, there are no equal to Arnold), beating familiar ones cause heart palpitations and endless delight. At the same time, the action is not likened to a funny skit, the actors of the movie The Expendables-2 (2012) sometimes play the fool, but they do it so sincerely that the idea that the film industry veterans were just going to frolic does not arise. On the screen are mountains of muscle, global explosions, large-scale shootings, dashing pursuits - for all this the viewer loves the action movie genre. Moreover, the creators did not spare tons of pompously flying artificial blood. Undoubtedly, behind all this genre splendor, the plot is pushed into the background, however, it explains the appearance of Van Damme in the incarnation of the main antagonist.
Even if the mercenaries wise by everyday experience saved a kitten from a tree, spread out in the park of a tyrant dictator, this would not have changed anything. With such a volume of charisma pouring from the screen, you can endure everything and be happy after watching.
