A.P. Chekhov did not live a very long life (only 44 years), but wrote a lot during this time - 22 volumes of essays and 8 volumes of letters. He wrote different stories, some were big, some were small. We invite the reader to study the work that Chekhov wrote - “The Fugitive” (short summary).
Hospital and Doctor
A.P. Chekhov has works that contain internal morality, and there are free ones from it. The "fugitive" refers rather to the second. It is only a fixation of some experience or observation. The work could be based on a real fact, but Chekhov could have made it up. “The Fugitive” (a summary will be presented in the article) is a work written by a cultural syllable.
The boy is brought to the hospital by her mother with a strange wound on her elbow. Having examined the hand, the doctor begins to scold the mother with the last words for the fact that she brought Pashka (Pavel Galaktionov) so late. The doctor says: “How could you pull so much? Do not bring a child for six months? Now you have to cut off your hand, but what is it without a hand, who needs it? And you (the doctor turns to the mother) a burden for life! ” Of course, this scene is heartily described by Chekhov. The Fugitive, a brief summary of which fell into our view, is worth a full read of the story for the sake of these mise-en-scenes, especially since its volume is less than 10 pages.

Apparently, the meaning of the words does not reach Pashka’s mother too much, so she expects further instructions from the doctor. Having calmed down a little, the doctor puts the boy in the hospital. He is escorted to the second floor of the hospital, where, apparently, seriously ill people are lying. Pasha is given new clothes, well fed. An old man with lung damage lies on a neighboring bed in the ward. The boy likes everything: he is well fed, dressed in clean linen. True, there are some strange and scary people in the neighborhood, but this is of little concern to him during the absorption of hospital food.
Strange pictures for the modern reader are described by Chekhov. "The Fugitive" (summary) does not lie. Most likely, the boy and mother came from the village to the hospital, where there was state support, so this is not surprising.
Acquaintance with Death
His inconveniences began at night, when it turned out that one of the guests, who was in front of the ward, died, and the patients who shared the room tried to take him out on the blanket. They talked noisily, discussing in detail the details of such a difficult matter. Pashka heard their conversations, and he was overcome by panic. Here, he outlined the culmination of the story of Chekhov. "The Fugitive" (work) appears before the reader in all its glory.
The child began to call mom. The boy ran through the hospital, then into the street, then he turned out to be unknown at the porch of the doctor’s house (the doctor’s home was in the hospital), who examined him in the morning. Pashka looked into a window glowing in the dark (although it was scary), he saw a pretty face there and lost consciousness.
The doctor discovered Pasha a few hours later. The hero of the story regained consciousness to the sound of the doctor’s voice. It was already light, and all his fears were dispelled, there remained only the doctor’s ridicule over him.
So ends Chekhov's story “The Fugitive”. The summary also ends on this soothing note.
