The adventure sequel “The Mummy Returns” (2001) was created based on the plot patterns of the original 1999 film by director and scriptwriter Stephen Sommers. Among the merits of the picture, film critics called the appearance of new characters, the disclosure of the characteristics of the main characters and the story of the Scorpion King organically woven into the narrative. All the actors of the film "The Mummy-2", including the champion of the fighting without rules Dwayne Johnson and the highly intelligent Briton John Hannah, were pleased to embody the director's idea.
Single team
Director Steven Sommers, yielding to general enthusiasm, appeared in the role of a man taking a bath in the open air in the film "The Mummy-2." Professional actors, inspired by such dedication, have demonstrated impressive skill.
The cast ensemble has been preserved in its entirety from the previous part. This undoubtedly benefited the film, because sometimes the replacement of artists adversely affects the quality of the sequel. The film "The Mummy" (1999 film) was revised by actors of Part 2 repeatedly before starting work on the sequel.
Arnold Voslow (Imhotep)
As in the original tape, Arnold Voslow was at a height, again embodying the image of Imhotep. The performer, familiar to the viewer on the tape "Difficult Target" and many TV shows, amazes with the ability to present his hero. The character changes somewhat, still personifying universal evil, but in the sequel it seems more human. In the climactic scene, the actor creates the impossible with his character: his look, last cast on the happy spouses of O'Connell, is more eloquent than any phrases. He exposes the soul of Imhotep, who still loves the treacherous girlfriend, but has already come to terms with the fatal inevitability. The actors who were at that time on the set were surprised by his penetration during the filming of the final episode of the film “Mummy-2”.
Patricia Velazquez (Ankh-Su-Namun) and Rachel Weiss (Evelyn)
The love of Imhotep and, as it turned out later, the culprit of his death, Ankh-Su-Namun, played by the beautiful Patricia Velazquez (“Jaguar”, “Mind Hunters”), captivates with a demonic twinkle in the eyes and grace of the predator. It was a pleasure to watch her play. The character is very important for the overall story. Her act in the finale reveals the true value of feelings for Imhotep. The love of the characters fades into the background, giving way to the instinct of self-preservation, which cannot be said about her opponent Evelyn (Rachel Wise).
Rachel literally re-created the image of her heroine, impeccably conveying all the changes that have occurred to her since the first part. The actress is known to the audience by the films "Enemy at the Gates", "Constantine", "Deep Blue Sea". In the film "Mummy-2", the actors made a screen excursion into the past of their characters. Wise, for example, was to play Nefertiti in parallel, whose reincarnation was, as it turned out, her Ivy O'Connell.
Brendan Fraser (Richard O'Connell) and Oded Fer (Ardet Bay)
Brendan Fraser, the performer of the role of Rick O'Connell, brilliantly managed to preserve all the features inherent in his character, adding a ton of new tones and colors. In the sequel, the image of the hero is much more complicated. Now he is not just a fearless warrior, a frightening mummy, but also a caring father and beloved spouse, which makes the image of the hero more complete and complete. The filmography of the actor contains such popular films as “Explosion from the Past”, “Clash”, “Blinded by Desires”, so his experience and professionalism did not give in to doubt.
The only one who remained immune to the sands of time is Ardet Bay performed by Oded Fera (Resident Evil 2.3, Black Mark, Medium). Perhaps this is the character who appeared in the sequel without any changes.
Dwayne Johnson (King of the Scorpions) and Freddy Boat (Alex O'Connell)
Due to the introduction of new characters into the story, the actors Freddie Boat and Dwayne Johnson appeared in the cast of the movie Mummy 2. The young performer, who embodied on the screen the son of the couple O'Connell, managed to do the almost impossible: Freddy eclipsed his on-screen parents. Given that the sequel was the debut picture of a young talent, Boat managed to pull a blanket of sympathy on the audience. His character attracts attention due to the stunning organic and photogenicity.
Dwayne Johnson ("Walking Wide", Doom, "GI Joe: Throw Cobra - 2") this time played the role of the Scorpion King, and the performer pronounces all his few phrases exclusively in ancient Egyptian. During the filming process, the actor received a sunstroke and suffered from food poisoning, but did not stop acting.
