What would you do if you had access to any point in space and time? What did you do if you could visit medieval England, the Earth before the beginning of our era, or even find yourself on another planet and at the same time catch home by evening tea? Reflecting on this, the BBC launched the most successful and longest, according to Guinness book, film project Doctor Who, the list of episodes of which has already exceeded 800. Subtle British humor, intricate plots, and the interweaving of science fiction and scientific facts have made the series popular for many years viewers around the world.
50 year history
For more than 50 years, the Doctor Who series has been aired, the list of episodes of which is being replenished to this day. The first episode was released in 1963 on the British television channel BBC. It was the time of the first space flights, black and white films, the debut of The Beatles and the Rowling Stones. The day before the first episode of Doctors came out, the whole world was shocked by the assassination of President Kennedy, and a year earlier by the death of the dazzling Marilyn Monroe.
Initially, Doctor Who was designed for teenagers and pursued educational goals. But over time, it gained success with a wide audience of viewers of different ages and fields of activity. In 1989, the show was completed, but in 2005 its release was resumed using the latest computer graphics at that time. Therefore, the list of episodes of the series "Doctor Who" is conditionally divided into classic episodes (1963 - 1989) and new (2005 - 2016).
According to the plot, the Doctor periodically changes his appearance. Being the Lord of time, he is able to regenerate in case of danger, receiving a new body. The screenwriters used this trick to make it possible for the actors of the Doctor Who movie project to change frequently, the list of episodes of which has grown significantly. Thus, over 50 years, 35 different people have played the role of Time Lord. At the same time, several generations of scriptwriters and writers worked on the plot, among which were Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Neil Gaiman (Coraline, American Gods, Stardust).
So who is the Doctor?
Doctor Who calls himself the Last Time Lord. He travels on his space-time spacecraft, the Tardis, which has taken the form of a blue police booth as a result of a malfunction in the camouflage system.
Having access to any point of the Universe in the present, past and future, he experiences incredible adventures, saves the world, and sometimes re-creates history. The doctor has no name. The reason for this remains a mystery throughout the series. The fate of this character is based on personal and universal tragedy. Once in the past, he destroyed the home planet Gallifrey with all its people. This difficult decision put an end to the devastating War of Time. Since then, the Doctor is the last representative of a kind.
In order not to feel alone while traveling around the Universe, the Time Lord takes with him companions to whom he has warm friendly feelings. These are mainly representatives of the earthly human race. It is the satellites that play a key role in the Doctorβs misadventures, help him avoid mistakes and prevent disasters.
