In the seventies, Georgian short films-comedies were shown in all cinemas throughout the Soviet Union . The paintings lasting from fifteen to thirty minutes contained so much good humor and cheerful irony that the audience received a lot of pleasure and left the room without fail with a smile on their faces.
How films were produced
Old Georgian short comedies were well-known to everyone, people tried not to miss a single new film, but after seeing the picture, they shared their impressions. The film studio Georgia-Film was well equipped with modern equipment, and shooting in the open was especially successful. Therefore, for the most part, Georgian short comedies were created outdoors, in the mountains, gorges or on the plains, depending on the scenario.
Famous directors
Georgian cinema of the times of the USSR was famous for its talented directors and highly qualified technical support personnel, cameramen, illuminators and other specialists. Soviet Georgian short comedies were shot one after another, each director fulfilled his plan.
The master of national cinema
The most famous director at the Georgia-Film studio was Revaz Gabriadze, who accounted for not only Georgian short comedies, but also such masterpieces as Kin-Dza-Dza, Mimino, and Don't Cry! In addition to the movie, the director spent most of his life in the puppet theater, which he created in 1981 at the Tbilisi House of Artists.
Revaz Gabriadze was one of the few Soviet cinema figures who were allowed to travel abroad. He worked for a long time in France and Switzerland, staged theatrical performances there and wrote scripts. The director considered the Peter Brook Theater to be a priority stage in Paris. Such theater stars as Natalie Pari and Bakari Sangare took part in his productions.
Returning to the Soviet Union, Revaz Gabriadze created the play "Song of the Volga", which was later renamed and became known as the "Battle of Stalingrad." In 1996, the play was shown in the French city of Dijon.
Role in art
The famous Georgian director is also a talented artist, painter and master of book graphics. His works are exhibited around the world, the best of them are in private collections and state museums in different countries. The director, until recently, collaborated with the Mikhail Baryshnikov Dance Foundation in New York. He wrote and directed for the foundation the play "Doctor and the Sick, or Forbidden Christmas." The premiere took place at the Lincoln Center, and then the performance was shown in many theaters in America.
The Revaz Gabriadze Theater toured the United States, participated in the Edinburgh Festival, went on tour in Austria, Italy, Spain, Norway, Germany.

- Suite (1976), demonstration time 24 minutes;
These are not all Georgian short comedies created by Revaz Gabriadze. Today, the master is already on a well-deserved rest.
Other directors, colleagues Gabriadze
The director of Gaga Revishvili became famous after the release of the film “Sunday”, lasting 17 minutes, telling about one day of the young guy, his meetings and other events that occurred on the day off.
Guguli Mgeladze created about twenty films, the most notable of which was the short comedy White Houses, filmed in 1974. The 22-minute film tells about the relations of builders who are not indifferent to art and pianist.
Georgy Dadiani is the creator of the fifteen-minute comedy film "Flute" about the musician's love for an employee of a crystal factory.
Soviet system and cinema
A planned economy involves saving in everything; this also applies to the production of feature films. However, the party leadership of the country of the Soviets allocated enough funds to produce just such inexpensive films, which were Georgian short comedies. The USSR in the seventies promoted a free way of life for its population, and small films were the best suited for this purpose.
