One of them is directed to the frontal part, the second is directed to the lower jaw, the third captures the jaw of the upper, nasal region, as well as the cheek. Each branch is divided into smaller, transmitting nerve signals to all parts of the face.
Trigeminal nerve: types of inflammation
Trigeminal neuralgia is an inflammatory process characterized by severe pain in the facial region and is divided into two types:
- true. Independent disease due to compression of the nerve or a malfunction in its blood supply;
- secondary. Symptom of any underlying disease: multiple sclerosis, herpes infection, vascular diseases, some allergic manifestations, endocrine system dysfunctions and metabolism.
Most often, trigeminal neuritis, treatment at home which is a very long process, manifests itself in one of its three branches. Less often, two or all three nerve processes can become inflamed at the same time. Exacerbation of symptoms is observed in the winter, in the summer it can occur as a result of drafts.
Causes of the disease
The trigeminal nerve, the treatment at home of which is quite effective, becomes inflamed during compression due to external and internal factors.
External factors are various inflammatory processes in the nasal cavity, its sinuses and mouth, arising in the process of tooth extraction, poorly placed fillings, as a result of pulpitis, gum abscess, etc.
Internal causes are due to injuries causing the formation of adhesions. Most often, the disease occurs due to displacement of veins and arteries located near the trigeminal nerve.
Symptoms of the disease
The trigeminal nerve, treatment at home which, according to patients, is quite effective, the largest of the 12 cranial nerves. Its inflammation is characterized by the following symptoms:
- Pain. Sharp, sudden, sharp, resembling an electric shock. It lasts a few seconds (no more than 2 minutes), often manifests itself without any apparent reason. It resembles a toothache, concentrates in the region of the lower and upper jaw, and can be given to the ear, neck and eye zones. In rare cases, pain provocateurs can be manipulations that affect a certain area of the face: brushing, washing, shaving, applying makeup. Sometimes pain can occur during conversation, laughter, or when trying to smile.
- Muscle spasm causing pain tic on the affected part of the face.
- Loss of sensitivity of one of the front sides.
- Skewed facial expressions (impossibility of completely closing the eyelid, moving one of the corners of the mouth, etc.).
