As you know, any mechanism or device must be carefully looked after and done constant prevention. Especially when it comes to inertia-free reel (inertia in the modern fishing world is used much less often). So, there is at least one decent reel that you must look after, because it is exposed during fishing to the open influence of the forces of nature: wind, rain, snow. Some unscrupulous manufacturing companies (oh, these Chinese, and not only them) allow minimal factory lubrication in the mechanism. Then over time, having sorted out such a piece of fishing art, you find that it’s practically dry inside and there is no grease for the reel at all (the tackle has already begun to creak and crack, it was a specific growling sound during operation). Therefore, we urgently disassemble and lubricate the parts. This will greatly extend the time of active existence for tackle, and at the same time will calm the nerves of the fisherman (as these extraneous sounds make some people very nervous).
About the benefits of prevention
It’s not even clear why many fishermen, even experienced, avid ones, neglect this process (all the more so, many of them are also motorists, and they already know about the significance of the prevention and lubrication done in time). If the coil for several seasons was quite active without the appropriate preventive procedures, then when disassembling it, you can clearly see the black grease, dried up from time to time, and the gear teeth sharpened from this, and personally observe the difficult move.
Which fishing reel grease is suitable?
Actually, we need two types of lubricant: thick and liquid. For gears, viscous is used so that it does not leak out during the active work of the gear. And for the layup roller - liquid, so that it walks well. Everything would seem very simple. But there are many options on the market, and not every coil grease can be certain. Of the most popular options among the fishing fraternity: Litol, Tsiatim - as a thick lubricant. And as a liquid - ordinary motor oil (especially if the fisherman is also a motorist, then it is always at hand).
By the way, for some reason they do not recommend using a bluish-colored
molybdenum grease , but the one used for transmission is suitable. They say that it has been experimentally verified: mechanisms can go up to 7-10 years if a similar lubricant is used for coils. Reviews about it are very positive among fishermen actively practicing spinning. Some also advise automobile SHRUS-4. And if fishing is constantly happening on the seas, then - special marine (AMS-1 or MZ, for example), specially designed for salty environments. Yes, and do not forget to carefully lubricate the coil, thoroughly clean it from possible dirt and sand, obsolete grease. And if water gets in, dry it.
