Downton Abbey - Russian translation of the name of the series "Downton Abbey" - a true masterpiece of British cinema. If you think about it, this is not at all surprising, because the authors of the famous Gosford Park had a hand in creating it. The screenwriter was Julian Fellows, whose name alone can be considered a mark of quality. "Downton Abbey" shows England the beginning of the XX century.
Fans of the series, which with each new series becomes more and more, note such advantages as detailed character traits of characters and realistic surroundings. The film has an exciting plot, however, in addition to numerous intrigues, it raises such serious historical topics as female emancipation, the
beginning of the First World War, the
Spanish flu epidemic in England, the development of technology and the growth of industry ...
Plot
The film “Downton Abbey” is named after the name of the estate in which the main events unfold. The action begins in the infamous 1912: the only heir to the title of Count Grantham tragically ends his life by buying a ticket to the Titanic. A large family is convinced that the vast estates and huge capital after the death of the count will go to his eldest daughter, but Count Robert stubbornly refuses to make young Mary happy. He is convinced that the entire inheritance (and it is rather big) will go to the real male heir, even if he becomes an unknown distant relative. Along with the life of the nobility, “Downton Abbey” picturesquely depicts the life and customs of servants and commoners.
Second season
The following series introduce the viewer to the realities of the First World War - from the famous Battle of the Somme to the armistice concluded in 1918. The fairly elderly Lord Grantham, of course, cannot be called to the front, however, Matthew Crowley and footman William express a desire to volunteer and leave to fight. Not all residents of the abbey are distinguished by patriotism and the desire to die on the battlefield: for example, Tom Branson is not at all sure that England needs him. But Lady Sybil manifests herself as a real heroine: this graceful aristocrat tirelessly works as a sister of mercy in a local hospital.
Downton Abbey Season 3
1920, the war is over. Count Grantham's careless investments put land in jeopardy. Matthew Crowley and Mary got married, but the relationship between them can not be called ideal: Matthew can not decide to spend the legacy of Lavinia to preserve the Abbey. Mrs. Levinson, in turn, also refuses to spend fixed capital, albeit for a good cause. Edith unsuccessfully tries to streamline her personal life, but Sir Anthony cancels the wedding at the last minute. In the last series, Mary is safely resolved by the heir, and Matthew dies in a car accident.
Downton Abbey Season 4
A change has taken place in the life of the family: Mary is mourning, Miss O'Brien unexpectedly serves everyone to serve Lady Flinshter, and both ladies depart for India. Loyal viewers can only guess how things will develop in the future.
