The article tells about the flag of Mozambique: what it shows, which of our compatriots indirectly participated in the creation of its symbolism.
Vexillogy
Once upon a time, the symbols of states played a huge role, they were especially important in the Middle Ages. For example, for some baron, knight or even commoner it was no harder to understand the meaning of emblems and standards than in our time to distinguish a general from a lieutenant. This was due not only to curiosity, but also to necessity, sometimes vitally important.
Many centuries have passed since then, the world map has been redrawn more than once, and now the symbols of all states are probably known only to fanatics of vexillology (the science of emblems and flags). However, to this day there are very interesting patterns, and one of them is the flag of Mozambique.
Tool and war
As you can see, in addition to the book (the symbol of knowledge and enlightenment) hoes (the symbol of economy and labor), the Kalashnikov rifle is depicted on the flag of this African power . Somewhat unusual character selection. To explain, you need to make a short excursion into history.
Fedor Kalashnikov and the flag of Mozambique
In the late forties and early fifties, the Soviet Union army decided to rearm the soldiers with new personal small arms. And such victory symbols as PPSh and the Mosin rifle were replaced by an automatic machine designed by Fedor Kalashnikov. He was distinguished by great reliability, accuracy of battle, power and cheapness, which is important, because they had to arm the whole huge army. And a little later, his victorious procession began around the world. Many countries wanted to have this machine gun in their arsenal, and the USSR began to sell AK or licenses for its production to a number of states. And mostly communist countries fighting for independence. So what does the flag of Mozambique have to do with it?
Like now, and decades ago, the African continent was torn from a huge number of wars, clashes and constant armed coups, and, of course, everyone needed a lot of weapons. And the situation was aggravated by the fact that the production base was extremely scarce and had to be bought. The choice fell on AK, and it was with him that Mozambique won its independence. And in 1975, he placed this weapon on the national flag. So now you know why the Kalashnikov rifle is depicted on the flag of Mozambique.
The rest of the world
In addition to Africa, AK can be found in almost any corner of our planet. North Korea, China, the countries of Latin America and the Arab countries, the territory of the former USSR - and this is not a complete list of powers where this machine gun is armed.
