The legend of motocross Gennady Moiseev

Perseverance, stubbornness, training in spite of injuries and prohibitions of doctors, thoughtful and reckless actions at competitions - this distinguishes true sports fans and makes their victories legendary for all time. One of such unique athletes and a true legend of the world motocross was the Soviet motorcycle racer Gennady Moiseev.

Biography

Gennady Anatolyevich Moiseev was born on February 3, 1948 near the station Vyritsa of the Leningrad Region in the family of veteran of the Great Patriotic War Anatoly Pavlovich and nurse Anna Mikhailovna. Gennady had two more brothers: Victor and Alexander. Looking at his father, who worked as a driver, the brothers also dreamed of cars and vehicles.

The family lived in a private house, which meant early hikes, help with the housework, picking berries and mushrooms in the forest, and chores around the yard. The boys were busy all day with school and household chores, and there wasn’t much time or energy for games and entertainment. The only joy in Gennady’s life was an old bike, from which his craving for two-wheeled vehicles began. When the boy was thirteen years old, his father drove a bicycle moped to go to work.

The family of Gennady Moiseyev hadn’t heard anything about motocross yet, but what Gennady and his brothers were doing on a bicycle in the field was the first steps in the sport. Later, when the elder brother Victor went to work and saved some money, he and his father bought a real Kovrovets motorcycle. On it, the guys traveled the whole terrain, overcame many natural obstacles. The ability to deftly handle equipment encouraged neighboring youth to dream of motorcycles as well. However, all these driving experiments were only by intuition. Gennady Moiseev saw real motocross skill at the World Championships in the Leningrad Yuccas.

Strength Test

The then winner of the Championship Belgian Joel Robert made a huge impression on motocross on Gennady Moiseev. Skill in driving a motorcycle and an early victory firmly convinced Moiseyev to get into this sport.

The arrival of pioneers and schoolchildren in the Leningrad Palace was unsuccessful. Coach Demyansky Kirill Alexandrovich refused the young man because of the staffing of the section, but advised him to come back in a month.

Arrival. Again refusal. Try again. Again: "Come in a month." Moiseyev’s persistence was pleasant to Demyansky, and once again the trainer called Gennady right away to training in Ozerki. Moiseyev grabbed at the offer to show all his achievements in driving a motorcycle as a lucky ticket. Brilliantly for a beginner having skated a circle, Gennady was accepted into the section.

Professional sport

Studying at motocross school was exhausting. But the athlete did not give up. Torn between the work of an electrician and the motocross section, Gennady Moiseev did not even have time to eat, and sometimes fell asleep in an electric train or directly on workbenches in the workshop section.

In 1965, Demyansky put Moiseyev in the official standings. Competing with experienced motocrossers, the athlete takes sixth place. The next year, before the championship of the Leningrad Region, they are betting on moving to the adult category from youth, but subject to good results. Moiseev first overtakes the best in the youthful line-up of Dolinkin, and then leaves behind in the second round the best experienced crossers Sirotkin, Sevostyanov and Sidorenko.

In the same 1966, the USSR Motocross Championship was held. The races for Moiseyev are quite difficult, but the task set by the coach to win at the last moment is solved. Moiseev takes bronze, thanks to which the coach of the national team Mikhail Ivanovich Kedrov includes Gennady in the composition of the candidates for the USSR team.

The army, which an athlete dreamed of since childhood, is on one side of the scale and motocross on the other. Fortunately, the army supported Moiseyev in his passion for sports and identified a recruit in the Army Sports Club to continue his studies.

A test of the pen took place at the World Championships in Belgorod in 1967. Then Moiseev was given the opportunity to show himself at one stage. The result is the third after Robert and Peterson. It seemed nothing difficult to become a world champion, but it only seemed.

Achievements and rewards

After that race a series of championships and stages followed, in which there were tremendous successes and the same steps back. Such a mess with places angered Moiseev, and the absolute championship at the level of a country or region was no longer so pleasing. 1974 became a turning point in the sports career of a motocrosser. The World Championship, in which Moiseyev became the second, was held with violations by the winner of the Falta. Fixing a photo and video revealed a false start.
