For what purposes is an oxygen cushion used

Oxygen products (oxygen cushion, oxygen inhaler) are used for inhalation treatment. In hospitals, oxygen tents and inhalers are most often used, they are very convenient for emergency and ambulance.

Oxygen pillows are used most often, but do not always give the desired result. So, what is this tool and how to use it? This is an imitation of a rubberized bag up to 75 liters, from one corner it has a rubber tube with a funnel and a crane. It is refueled through a cylinder containing oxygen. First, a reducer is attached to the cylinder to reduce pressure to 2 atm.

Before giving the patient this funnel, it is wiped with an alcohol solution and wrapped with a damp gauze cloth. This is done so that the incoming oxygen does not irritate the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. The funnel should fit very tightly to the oral cavity so that oxygen enters the lungs and there is no gas leak.

The speed feed is controlled by a tap located on the tube. Sometimes gently push on the pillow itself. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to identify the uniformity and concentration of incoming oxygen into the respiratory tract. To enhance the therapeutic effect, you can replace the funnel-inhaler with several catheters, they are introduced into the nasal passages.

For this, a catheter number 8-12 is required. Several holes are made in it, slightly departing from the end, and inserted into the nostrils so that it enters the posterior pharyngeal cavity. The distance is approximately equal from the tip of the nose to the earlobe. The catheter should first be noted by gluing a small strip of adhesive tape to it. You cannot carry out this procedure yourself.

The oxygen pillow is quite easy to use unlike other inhalers. Each instrument is accompanied by technical instructions and a guarantee. If you do not know how to use this device at home, you can ask for help at any medical institution.

Oxygen pillow: indications for use

Oxygen therapy (oxygen treatment) is widely used in various diseases. It is used due to oxygen starvation due to:

- difficulties in the supply of oxygen,

- violations of pulmonary ventilation,

- also due to lack of oxygen in the air.

Such starvation is often observed with insufficient blood circulation, intoxication with carbon monoxide, pulmonary diseases (bronchial asthma, pneumonia, emphysema, pulmonary edema, etc.), anemia, etc.

Oxygen Cushion: Dosage

Only a specially trained and qualified medical professional should fill the device in the following order: open the clamp, put a pillow in front of the gearbox (device, regulating oxygen pressure) so that there are no clamps on the tube.

A funnel bell is put on the tube, the device is filled with oxygen until all the folds at the ends are smoothed and the pillow is closed. Before applying oxygen, the mask must be wiped with a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution and connected to the tube. It is important that when filling the pillow with oxygen, oil does not get on the surface of the pillow itself and the cylinder. Not recommended filling in sleeping areas.

Oxygen pillow: contraindications

Pregnant and young children can be used only after consulting a doctor and in urgent need.

Storage

After use, it is recommended to fill the pillow with air in order to avoid gluing its walls. Store from +1 to + 25 ° C in a cool and dark place, away from fuels and lubricants and heat emitted household appliances. Humidity in the room should be at least 65%.
