Self-government at school: yesterday and today

It seems to many that self-government at school is a product of modern society and the manifestation of its freedoms. But if people of middle age and older remember their childhood, then there they will see examples of such organizations. Take at least the links with the links, the advice of the detachment with the chairman, the advice of the school squad. Even in the lower grades, the Octobrists had stars, which were commanded by students selected from among the students. And if you compare the self-government in the school today with the Soviet-era self-government system?

In Soviet times, such a school organization was designed to help the administration in monitoring and organizing student activities. The administration did not consult, but gave orders - what, how and when to do. And the authority of the administration could be replaced by the chairman of his council elected by the class.

Today, self-government in the school allows students to take part in the life of the school themselves. And the council of self-government is not subordinate to the administration and cannot be disbanded by it. But, by design, he can influence the decisions made by the administration by participating in their discussion.

Modern self-government at school is aimed at instilling in the younger generation the desire to participate in public life, at forming an active civic position and eradicating inertia of thinking. Simply put, school self-government is designed to help grow from our children not passive inhabitants, but broad-minded people who are ready to change outdated norms and, if necessary, assert their rights.

In the process of such education, children develop a sense of personal and social significance, the ability to harmoniously combine personal and collective interests. And also develops the ability to make decisions independently and take responsibility for their implementation.

But to think that such undertakings should affect only the upper classes is an unforgivable mistake. By adolescence, many views and stereotypes have already been formed, and hormone-related negativity prevents adults from perceiving new attitudes. Therefore, one should begin to cultivate a responsible attitude and creative approach to public life, forming self-government in elementary school.

For the success of this work, it is necessary to stimulate the independent activity of younger students in organizing extracurricular activities. For example, to give them the opportunity to independently draw up a plan of extracurricular activities, to allow them to prepare class hours, festive events, various reports and speeches.

You can also start by creating in a game form a kind of “state” based on a cool team with the president, the minister of finance, the minister of culture and other “important people”. Of course, it will just be necessary to arrange the release of its own currency, which will appear as wages in the "state". Also, the "fined" will pay fines with it, and all the rest will deduct the "income tax" to the class fund. This option makes students take an active part in the life of the class, because they have not yet gone so far from fairy tales and games, and the proposed form of self-government meets their internal needs.

Self-government at school is not only beautiful theses and programs. It is also a strictly systematized, well-functioning structure, headed by the council of the school and its chairman, chosen by a general vote of the students.

Also, in each class, an asset is selected from among the students. It is these "governing bodies" that represent self-government in the classroom that act as representatives of apprenticeship in meetings with the administration. And it is they who organize and control the socially useful work at school - the collection of waste paper, duty, general cleaning of classes.

But everything described above is an ideal of self-government at school and, unfortunately, is a rarity. In many schools, so far it has remained only a beautiful word, which is remembered only on the so-called “Day of school self-government”, when the lessons are taught by high school students instead of teachers. Where it all ends.
