The name of the Soviet and Russian musical group NOM stands for Informal Youth Association. In addition to creating musical compositions in the style of “ironic rock”, the association of like-minded people is engaged in literature, the production of posters and films. One of the group’s iconic creations is the film Apiary. NOM positions its brainchild as a fabulous thriller, containing a parody of all currents and schools of the world film industry.
Fairytale project
Before the Apiary, NOM produced paintings that were a series of spectacular clips or a set of unrelated genre sketches. In the 2002 project, the creators deliberately mixed socialist realism, mysticism, the canons of the theater of the absurd and the sarcastic Platonic image of psychology. "Apiary" is the first full-length work of the creative team. Its premiere took place on March 30, 2002, in honor of the anniversary of the group. After the picture was shown at the Moscow film festival “Joint 2002”, where it was awarded the Grand Prix, it was also included in the IFFR program of the international film festival in Rotterdam.
Plot
In the script of the “Apiary” tape, NOM included several parallel storylines that intersect at some point. At the center of the story is the main character, a retired officer Valery Detdomov, who, fulfilling a promise, is looking for a friend of a deceased friend in the wilds of the city of Valui, Elizarovsky district. His misfortunes resemble walking in hellish circles.
In general, the story is composed and implemented quite excitingly and convincingly, so installation flaws and other nuances are not very noticeable. As the soundtrack in the picture, the musical composition of the same name is used, a natural parody of the Bicycle Race Queen. Background music is a mixture of musical compositions by A. Barykin, Vysotsky, Rammstein and Zodiac.
Production Features
According to the directors Andrei Kagadeev and Nikolay Kopeikin, the main expenses began after the material was filmed. The modest budget of the tape in the majority was spent on its installation. The creative team acquired a computer, having spent about $ 2,000, thanks to the sponsorship of the newspaper At the bottom, and began installation. As a result, the tape is an unreal-schizoid, surrealistic image of the surrounding reality, which during the entire timing successfully combines with the satirical component and the naturalness of life. Many critics have noticed that due to amateur shooting, the tape frankly resembles a home video.
