The first channel annually pleases us with its new original projects on a variety of topics. There are programs for a wide variety of tastes: entertaining, social, political and comedic. However, in 2007, a program appeared, which seriously differed from all of the above. It was dedicated to one of the most popular areas of modern art - cinema. It was called "Closed Screening."
"Closed Show"
"Closed screening" is an author’s program of the famous Russian presenter, actor and film director Alexander Gordon. This man has been one of the most qualified people in his field for more than a year. Almost every viewer who regularly watches television broadcasts knows him. It was thanks to the “Closed Screening” that Gordon was finally able to secure the status of the most extraordinary and qualified representative of domestic television. The "closed show" with Alexander Gordon lasted for six whole years. Over this period of time, a huge number of various issues have been released, each of which was distinguished by originality and high-quality material. Next, we will analyze in detail what this project is, and also find out what films "Closed Screening" presented. A list of the most discussed of them will be presented to the reader below.
What is the transmission about?
The bottom line is that films are watched and then discussed in the studio. “Closed screening” (we’ll look at a list of some of the paintings today) is a program in which the host, directors and film crew take part in the discussion. They are given the opportunity to deliver an introductory speech and talk in detail about what exactly the audience has to see. Also in the studio there are many other qualified artists, such as screenwriters, actors, film critics and many, many others. All of them can express their unbiased opinion at the end of watching a movie. Also, ordinary viewers take an active part in the discussion, among which you can meet both young students and more adult moviegoers with considerable life experience.
Transmission Features
Unlike many other Russian programs devoted to cinema, in the studio often show films designed for a narrow circle of people. This kind of picture is often called an arthouse. They are not entertaining, but often carry a much deeper idea, which makes you think a lot. The air of the "Closed Screening" broadcast mainly domestic film works. But often one could also meet foreign films of well- known directors. Often, they personally came to the studio to tell Russian fans about how their picture was created, and also to share experience in cinema. In particular, one of the issues was visited by Francis Ford Coppola himself - the author of such masterpieces as The Godfather and Apocalypse Today. At the "Closed Screening" he presented his latest work at the moment called "Between."
Closed Screening Movies: List
Next, we bring to your attention an extensive list of the most visible films shown in the Closed Screening program. Among several dozen, we have selected for you the best and most discussed films that have resonated:
- "Hunter";
- Ellipsis
- "Written by Sergei Dovlatov";
- "Depicting a victim";
- "The smell of heather";
- "Another sky";
- "The guy from Mars";
- "Bedouin".
The Hunter (2011 film)
We decided to start our list with this unusual adventure drama by Daniel Nettheim. She was featured in one of the latest issues of the program. In the center of the plot of this story is a lonely man named Martin. He is an experienced hunter and loner. Martin deliberately eschews human society. The main character has long been tired of life and decides to take on a rather risky task, since he simply has nothing to lose. Having signed a contract with a fairly influential company, he goes to the little-known and wild forests of Tasmania. Martin's task is to search for and then kill the last Australian tiger, which for several years has been considered a completely exterminated species. During his journey, he stumbles upon a small house in which the young woman Lucy lives. She recently lost her husband, who went to the forest and did not return from there. What will this meeting lead to?
"Hunter" is a 2011 film that was warmly received by professional critics. In their reviews, they noted the incomparable game of Willem Dafoe, who does not disdain to appear in a low-budget author’s movie of such a plan. Here he played one of his best roles in recent years. But despite all this, the film failed miserably at the American box office. In Russia, few also went to him. It is for this reason that we are becoming less and less likely to see such small masterpieces. Young and talented directors simply do not allocate money, as their creations do not pay off. One can only hope that the situation will soon change.
The Ellipsis (2006)
This film, shot by Russian film director Andrei Eshpay, was shown in the second issue of the program and received many positive reviews from the participants who were in the studio. The main character of the film is a woman named Kira Georgievna. She lives a completely happy life, which is not much different from a dozen others. She has a beloved husband, nice children, and also a very comfortable house. Everything went on smoothly until the first husband of Kira appeared on the doorstep of the house. He spent twenty years in the camps. This seriously affected his character and life beliefs. But the only thing that remained unchanged was feelings towards the main character. As a result, they begin to meet secretly from her current husband. But how long can they hide the truth from him?
According to viewers who prefer arthouse to mass cinema, the film The Dots (Andrey Eshpay, 2006) has become one of the strongest works of the year. It was also noted that the film had very strong acting, worthy of the highest awards. And it's pretty hard to argue with that. That's just all this did not help Eshpay film to collect a decent box office in movie theaters.
"Written by Sergei Dovlatov" (2012)
Roma Liberov is one of the youngest Russian directors. He shot his film entitled "Written by Sergei Dovlatov" at only 32 years old. Few manage to make themselves known so early. The film, created in an extremely atypical manner, tells about the life of the outstanding Soviet and American writer and journalist - Sergei Dovlatov. Over the years, he created many different works, and also wrote articles. Thanks to various letters, editorial columns and interviews, the director got the opportunity to show this unusual story.
According to professional critics, the film "Written by Sergey Dovlatov" (Roman Liberov, 2012) is innovative and has an extremely bold direction. Rarely, when newcomers gravitate toward experimentation. Instead, many are trying to create something that will be understood by a mass audience. But for Roman Liberov, fame did not matter. That is why he managed to create this outstanding documentary-animated film.
"Depicting a victim" (2006)
Kirill Serebrennikov is one of the most famous Russian directors of the 21st century. During his short career, he has already managed to fully reveal his directorial potential and create a considerable number of outstanding film works. Unlike other directors, he is not afraid to raise topical issues in his films. "Depicting a victim" - one of his most notorious directorial works, filmed with a considerable share of black humor.
In the center of the plot is a young man named Valentine. He recently graduated from the institute and is now looking for a place to earn money. He did not have to search long: almost immediately he manages to get a rather unusual position in the local police station. Vali's task is to portray the victim at the crime scene, where the defendants are brought. However, all these investigations occur solely for the sake of a tick, which creates a considerable share of the absurdity of what is happening.
Spectators overnight elevated the film “Depicting a Victim” (Kirill Serebrennikov, 2006) to the status of a cult. Numerous positive reviews to this day continue to pour in the film of the director. Many moviegoers will remember the scene in which one of the characters pronounces the well-known monologue, seasoned with a selected obscene language. It is thanks to this fragment that the current generation has learned about this motion picture.
The Smell of Heather (2011)
Nathanael is a young man who spends most of his life on the Internet. So there is nothing surprising in the fact that virtual reality has become much closer and more pleasant for him than the world around him. After some time, he manages to meet a young girl. That's just they communicate exclusively on the Internet. But once the main character decides to take a serious step. He collects things and sets off. He hopes to meet his lover and try to build a real relationship. Will he be able to do this?
The film by few well-known director Amet Magomedov appealed to the participants of the Closed Screening program. Experts expressed a lot of positive reviews, and also praised the lead actor. But there were those who were dissatisfied with what they saw. You can understand them. After all, the film "The smell of heather" (Amet Magomedov, 2011) is a typical representative of the comedy genre. Yes, the movie has a lot of interesting ideas, but still the audience does not recommend expecting something grand from this film.
"Another Sky" (2010)
For Dmitry Mamulia, this film remained the only one in his career. And it’s easy to guess why, looking in the section with the collections of films in the national box office. For our viewers, the film “Other Sky” (Dmitry Mamulia, 2010) simply went unnoticed. The plot focuses on a man named Ali, who travels through Central Asia with his nine-year-old son. He is trying his best to find his wife. She left him a few years ago, having left to work. But Ali does not lose hope of finding her and returning her. Will he succeed?
Many note the general drama of what is happening on the screen. The film is completely built on understatement. Among other things, in it there is practically not a single positive point. Spectators have repeatedly spoken out about this and complained that it is quite difficult to sit such a depressing movie to the very end.
"The guy from Mars" (2010)
The film “A guy from Mars” (Sergey Osipyan, 2010) caused the most mixed reviews from critics, but at the same time found a response from ordinary viewers. Many liked the film due to the presence of light unobtrusive humor, as well as stunningly selected actors.
The plot focuses on a young man who is an employee of a fairly large chocolate company. For the time being, his affairs went uphill. But once the situation changed dramatically ...
Bedouin (2012)
That rare case when all viewers and critics agreed that the film "Bedouin" is definitely worthy of attention. Igor Voloshin (2012 was the year the picture was born) knows a lot about good cinema. His directorial talent is noted by all, without exception, thanks to which the "Bedouin" and was able to find success.
The plot focuses on a young single mother who is faced with a serious nuisance: her daughter is ill with a serious illness. She needs to collect the necessary amount for the operation as soon as possible. But the heroine has no money. And then, finally desperate, she decides to go to a distant country in which they treat diseases in extremely extraordinary ways ...
This is not all the films discussed in the program. The "closed show" list was huge, and each item in it is definitely worth your attention. Happy viewing.
