Each vessel is designed with special mooring devices. A mooring rope is a strong, but not wide, cable that is used to moor a ship with a berth, floating platform or buoy. Essentially, at the time of mooring, the ship should be located next to the pier or between mooring buoys, another ship or barge.
What is a mooring rope?
For anchors and shipbuilding, a mooring rope of medium complexity is used. The material from which the mooring rope is made is the main factor in the tasks that it must solve. Different materials have certain characteristics that will make them ideal or unsuitable for the various devices on board.
Some ships use a rope for one or more of their mooring lines. A wire cable is difficult to handle and maintain. There is also a risk associated with the use of a cable at the stern of a vessel near its propeller. Mooring lines and cables can also be made by combining a wire rope and a synthetic line.
Such lines are more flexible and easier to handle than cable lines, but still they are not as flexible as a pure synthetic line. When constructing a combined mooring line, special precautions must be observed.
Polypropylene and high strength polypropylene
Polypropylene mooring ropes float, which makes them ideal for use for safety purposes, throwing lines, ropes on rescue rings and rescue buoys and so on. A poor-quality polypropylene rope is difficult to handle, as it can become stiff if left in the same position for a long period of time.
Floating ropes are very useful in some situations, however, the rope on the surface is always dangerous for the propeller, so special care should be taken not to contaminate the support when using polypropylene. Where is the river mooring line used? Examples are moorings, anchor buoys and mooring buoys. The ship is attached to the mooring to prevent the free movement of the vessel on the water. An anchor fixes the position of the vessel relative to a point on the bottom of the waterway without connecting the vessel to the shore.
Nylon
The mooring rope is usually made of a synthetic material such as nylon. Nylon is easy to use and lasts for years, but it is very flexible. This elasticity has its advantages and disadvantages. The main danger is that if a heavily strained nylon line breaks, it can mortally injure witnesses. Mooring cables made from materials such as polypropylene have much less elasticity and are therefore much safer to use. However, such lines do not float on water, and they tend to sink. In addition, they are relatively more expensive than others.
What is the name of the mooring rope?
Mooring is often carried out using thick ropes called mooring lines or cables. These lines are fixed on deck fittings on the ship at one end and on special pedestals, rings and clips at the other end. Mooring requires cooperation between people on the pier and on the ship. Heavy mooring ropes are often transmitted from larger vessels to people mooring along smaller weighted lines.
As soon as the fixing line is attached to the nightstand, it is stretched. Larger ships usually pull them in, using heavy machines called winches. A sailor throws a lift line to pass a mooring line to a shore conductor. The heaviest cargo ships may require more than a dozen mooring lines. Small vessels can usually be moored in four to six lines.
Such a mooring device as a mooring rope is also called a chal, a chalk, mooring, a bandage, slings, a halyard, a sheim, a chain. Such a device should be on every ship. It provides pulling the ship to the coastline or to other floating berthing facilities. The mooring rope serves as a reliable anchorage of the vessel to them.
