It is generally accepted that girls more often choose melodramas for viewing. Why not? They are emotional, often dream of a beautiful and great love. When gray everyday life is surrounded only by deeds and cares, one wants to plunge into a romantic, sensual atmosphere. A great opportunity for this would be watching the movie “Quiet Harbor” (2013). Actors known to many viewers, as well as the work of the master of dramatic stories, Nicholas Sparks, are the guarantee that a pair of tears will certainly appear before your eyes.
Plot
Among all the actors of “Quiet Harbor”, it is worth highlighting Juliana Hough, who played the main character. Her character, Katie, has a large cozy house and husband. From the outside, everything seems safe. However, terrible things are happening outside the walls of the house. The usual homemade dinner, delicious food, wine, a beautiful, caring wife and a loving husband - all this at once turns into a terrible nightmare.
Katie's husband is a policeman, but this does not deter him from domestic violence. In one second, his mood and thoughts change, and he pounces on his wife. This is not the first time this has happened, but now he is especially angry.
A knife lies among the dishes scattered on the floor, and Katie hits her husband, Kavin, who was played in the Quiet Harbor by actor David Lyons, and runs away. She is almost all the time alone, but still familiar with one of the neighbors. Stained with blood, a barefoot and frightened girl knocks on her door. A woman without any questions helps her, because Cattie needs to leave Boston as soon as possible before her husband goes in search of.
The girl changes her appearance: she cuts her hair, dyes blonde. In the last seconds, Katie manages to slip away from her husband. The bus she is riding makes a stop in the small town of Southport. It looks like a lot of others: picturesque places, a shop and cafe for tourists and a small number of local residents.
Something tells Katie that here she can safely hide from her husband. The girl settles in a cafe as a waitress, rents a small house in the wilderness and tries to live on. She draws closer to the store owner, Alex, who was played in Quiet Harbor by actor Josh Duhamel.
He is a widower with two wonderful children. Alex's family is also trying to live on. Two affected souls gradually help each other cope with emptiness and pain. But Katie can’t give herself completely to feelings, because her husband is somewhere out there. In his obsession, he will not stop until he finds her.
Runaway
Katie's real name is Erin. For many years she suffered from beating her husband, but still considered herself the culprit of his breakdowns and defended the offender. But everything comes to an end. Escaping from the horror that surrounded her, the girl wants to be able to breathe freely, to live without fear. She does this gradually, with the help of Carly, a neighbor in whom there is some mystery.
But the past continues to worry Katie. Bad forebodings, nightmares often torment the girl. Over time, they become less common. Alex, whom Katie met immediately upon arrival, becomes the one who makes you feel loved and needed again. Feelings give the girl the strength to live on.
Like other actors in Quiet Harbor, Julianne Hough did a great job with her role: fragile and tender, but capable of fighting for her happiness.

Alex lives in a quiet, small town. His life is two children and a shop. It flows uniformly and uniformly. Only sometimes the tourists who bring the bus bring revival.

Let not the main, but significant for the plot role played by Kobe Smulders. She perfectly fit into the cast of silent harbor (2013). The viewer first sees her as a girl who allegedly lives near the house where Katie settled. She sometimes comes to her, helps to get used to a new place. But there is some mystery. The viewer knows nothing about her: how she appeared, where she disappears. She, as a wise mentor, leads Katie to a new life.
From the letter that the main character reads at the end of the film, we learn that in fact it is Joe, the wife of Alex, who died several years ago. She so wanted her family to become happy again, that she waited for her husband to meet a woman who could heal his pain. Joe was a loving and wise woman, and therefore did not want to be longed for. Smiles and the joy of children, a happy husband - that’s what matters most to her. Her presence in Katie’s life is an inexplicable, even fantastic element, but the melodrama should not be a fully authentic film.
