It’s worth saying right away that the film “Military Intelligence. The Northern Front ”is not an independent work. This is a prequel to two other mini-series: Military Intelligence. Western Front ”and“ Military Intelligence. First strike".
If in them the events of the Great Patriotic War unfold before us, then in the first in chronology, but shot last (such a “twist” of the creators of the franchise), the film is about the period preceding the war with Finland and, in fact, the Finnish campaign. Here our heroes only take their first steps, studying in a reconnaissance school: the first steps in getting to know each other and grinding in to each other, the first steps in mastering the basics of “craft”. The structure in all three seasons is the same: each consists of three films with two episodes in each. Nevertheless, it is impossible to say that "Military Intelligence. Northern Front" is a series.

So, the Northern Front. Military intelligence trains its cadres near Leningrad. Almost at hand near the future enemy.
The main characters, cross-cutting for all three parts, are the undoubted luck of the authors. This is a young radio operator Aleksey Teneshev, yesterday’s student at a Moscow university, Belarus Mikhas Sushkevich, a simple village guy who got into intelligence, so to speak, at the behest of his heart. Intelligent Klim Pavlovsky, a great clever woman, a polyglot, he has no equal in hand-to-hand combat - he is an experienced military man, Spain is behind him. Not immediately (at first he lies in the hospital, then carries out a responsible assignment), but it was Klim who would subsequently lead the group for which the Northern Front would be the first big test. Military intelligence is somewhat suspicious of this hero: he is the son of an "enemy of the people." But Klim’s mentor and his immediate superior, Victor Korneev, is a mountain for his student and does not give offense. There is another image - the captain Dubko, deputy head of the intelligence school, he leads the group at first. It is impossible not to say about the practically only representative of the weaker sex in this host of real men. Sniper Rita Brusnikina is unrequitedly in love with Alexei and therefore desperately wants to fight side by side with the subject of her passion.
Both beginners and luminaries
“Military intelligence. The Northern Front ”is a film that in no way claims to be an unconditional historical identity to the events of the Soviet-Finnish War. After all, this is, first of all, a work of art in which the scene is the Northern Front; military intelligence is, so to speak, the “main driving force” of the plot. The most valuable thing is that the picture in the traditions of the best Soviet and Russian films about the war teaches us to love your homeland, to be a faithful comrade, for whom the life of a friend is more important than their own. A lot of adventures will fall to the lot of the group. One of them, for example, is associated with the capture of a seasoned Finnish sniper (known under the code name White Fox), who killed more than one hundred of our commanders. It is good that the authors of the epic “Military Intelligence” chose almost unknown actors for the central roles of Tenshev and Misha, which is why they are perceived precisely as “our” guys, just one of us. Klima played "lit up" in many TV shows Pavel Trubiner. This image compares favorably with those created by him in The Diary of Dr. Zaitseva (the unlucky lover of the main character) or in The Island of Unnecessary People (hired killer). There is something to play here. Well, the role of the most experienced Korneev was rightfully given to the venerable Boris Shcherbakov. How many military and simply courageous people have been replayed - not to count! Welcome to the Northern Front! Military intelligence will give heat to the enemy!
