China developed rapidly, and the UK did not have the opportunity to extend the lease of Hong Kong. However, his return to China caused a complete imbalance - China and capitalist Hong Kong, completely saturated with communism, did not fit together at all. China demanded full control over the media, politics and the minds of citizens, and the city was used to living freely and democratically in Europe, acting only by its standards. So the idea of a transitional principle arose. From 1997 to the present, Hong Kong on the map and in the world community has become the Special Administrative Region of China. Moreover, having received relative domestic and political freedom, he lost his foreign policy.
Many people still mistakenly believe that Hong Kong is a city. But this is not so. Hong Kong is an association of regions of China. Therefore, the question of whether Hong Kong is a country or a city is absolutely incorrect. He is neither one nor the other, but all together. It is unique and inimitable.
Today, Hong Kong is an amazing mix of all the achievements of the West and the unique flavor of the East. Here, charming colonial mansions are adjacent to towering skyscrapers. Plants are around here, both in the city itself and in the famous Victoria Park. It is here that Victoria Peak is located - the highest point of the whole island of Hong Kong (552 meters above sea level).
Hong Kong is a country of contrasts. It combines a wide variety of cultures, spirituality, beliefs and architectural styles. Hong Kong is “Asian New York”, the former colony of Britain, but, above all, it is the legacy of the great Chinese civilization, which preserves its deep traditions that are passed down from generation to generation.
