Is Hong Kong a country or a capital?

Many of us are wondering: "Hong Kong is a country or the capital of a state?" What is it? A beautiful city or a huge territorial district? If you ask the residents of Hong Kong themselves , they will answer with confidence: "Capital!" After all, Hong Kong is the capital of Asian culture and cinema, Asian fashion, the economy and, in general, a European metropolis in the center of Asia.

Hong Kong country

However, Hong Kong has never been the capital of any state. In general, until 1842, until this amazing place was chosen by the British, he was practically nothing. These were groups of islands on which small fishing villages huddled. One of them was called “Hong Kong”. The country in which it was located is the Great Chinese Empire. However, England needed a convenient place to trade opium with China. And it was in this place that the British decided to build their own trading port. They leased Hong Kong and the entire mainland of China adjacent to it. Thus, the former fishing village has become a real gem of the British Empire.

China developed rapidly, and the UK did not have the opportunity to extend the lease of Hong Kong. However, his return to China caused a complete imbalance - China and capitalist Hong Kong, completely saturated with communism, did not fit together at all. China demanded full control over the media, politics and the minds of citizens, and the city was used to living freely and democratically in Europe, acting only by its standards. So the idea of a transitional principle arose. From 1997 to the present, Hong Kong on the map and in the world community has become the Special Administrative Region of China. Moreover, having received relative domestic and political freedom, he lost his foreign policy.

Hong Kong on the map

Many people still mistakenly believe that Hong Kong is a city. But this is not so. Hong Kong is an association of regions of China. Therefore, the question of whether Hong Kong is a country or a city is absolutely incorrect. He is neither one nor the other, but all together. It is unique and inimitable.

Today, Hong Kong is an amazing mix of all the achievements of the West and the unique flavor of the East. Here, charming colonial mansions are adjacent to towering skyscrapers. During the construction of many buildings, the principles of Feng Shui teachings were used with might and main. For example, the facades are lined with mirror coatings to scare away evil spirits. Or corners of buildings: their mowing or rounding means friendliness and protection from evil influence.

Hong Kong capital

By the way, the name “Hong Kong” is translated as “fragrant port”. In this regard, the main motive of the city landscape is water and greenery. Hong Kong is truly green and fragrant. Plants are around here, both in the city itself and in the famous Victoria Park. It is here that Victoria Peak is located - the highest point of the whole island of Hong Kong (552 meters above sea level).

Hong Kong is a country of contrasts. It combines a wide variety of cultures, spirituality, beliefs and architectural styles. Hong Kong is “Asian New York”, the former colony of Britain, but, above all, it is the legacy of the great Chinese civilization, which preserves its deep traditions that are passed down from generation to generation.
