The twentieth anniversary is celebrated, and ahead of you is not so joyful, but very necessary event. You are waiting for the hassle of exchanging a Russian civil passport. Donβt overstretch your fees, because just a day after your birthday, a passport with your teenage photo can theoretically be declared invalid (expired). By law, you must replace your passport in 20 years within 30 days, otherwise do not be surprised if the wallet is relieved by a pretty decent amount of one and a half to two thousand rubles to pay an administrative fine.
So, you need to replace your passport, 20 years have already passed - it remains to answer the eternal question about what to do and where to go? First of all, try not to lose your old passport. Then go to the photographer for two photos for a new one. He will surely tell them the right size, and he will make it quickly. At a bank close to you, pay the state fee for the procedure for exchanging your passport and save the receipt received. At the end of the above manipulations, there are two options: write a request for an exchange to the nearest Federal Migration Service (many call it the passport office in the old way) or contact the specialists of the multifunctional public services center (such offices are open in many cities). Moreover, you can write a statement to the OFMS not only personally, but also by going to the Internet portal of public services. When submitting an electronic application, photographs, a receipt for payment of the duty and an old passport, you must prepare and bring it to the FMS department on the day appointed to you.
If you replaced your passport at age 20 at your place of permanent residence, then ten days later you will become the happy owner of a document proving Russian citizenship and identity card. But in the case when you are away from home (study at the institute or work), the procedure is somewhat extended. When you contacted the MHIF at the place of actual stay, and you need to replace your passport in 20 years, the terms for issuing it are extended to two months.
If an identity document will be vital, in this case, for the period when a passport is replaced in 20 years, ask for a temporary ID. Having such a document in hand, you can avoid many unpleasant moments and misunderstandings.
And a few more interesting nuances that may arise when exchanging a passport:
- Some, especially zealous officials, may require a military or military ticket. Such requirements are illegal, therefore, they are obliged to accept documents, as well as issue a new passport in any case. But it is possible that the issuance of a new passport will be accompanied by a bonus in the form of delivery of a notification of the obligatory registration with the military. True, by and large, such a paper is extremely informative and does not oblige to anything;
- if you are a young newlywed and have already managed to change your passport due to the acquisition of a new surname, a passport replacement at the age of 20 is still necessary;
- when you meet your twentieth birthday while doing military service in the army, a passport replacement will be required only upon returning to civilian life;
- the requirements of a symbolic fee in any, even small, amount for filling out an exchange application form or paperwork are illegal.
And finally, remember that the next exchange is only in a quarter of a century, so you should be careful about the received passport. After all, its unplanned replacement in connection with the loss or damage is much more problematic.
