In 2009, director Marcus Dunstan presented horror movie fans with one of the brightest slashers of the early 21st century - the “Collector” tape. In 2012, he was replaced by “Collector 2” (actors: D. Stuart, E. Fitzpatrick, C. MacDonald, L. Tergesen, T. Griffin, A. Royo) from the creators of the Saw franchise, which explains a lot. Both projects have something in common: a mysterious maniac, killing dozens of extremely innocent civilians. Suffering, murder, blood - so sparingly you can characterize the work of Marcus Dunstan. But if you look a little deeper into history, it will be very worthy.
Plot
The actors of the movie “Collector 2” embodied the director’s idea on the screen, according to which the inventive killer Collector (Randall Archer), who annoyed Arkin (Josh Stewart) in the first film, goes on the hunt again. First, with a combine (literally), he mows a teenage party in order to kidnap the daughter of a local oligarch, Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick). The unfortunate Arkin, who barely escaped the misfortune, manages to plunge into another unpleasant story: he is arrested by the police. Helen’s father promises to avoid court proceedings if Arkin, together with a special forces team, goes to the maniac's den to save the girl. He only agrees to lead the mercenaries to the door, but one of the oligarch’s bodyguards, Luchello (Lee Tergesen), drags him inside. Well, everything is traditional in the house: cunning death traps are disguised, there is a kunstkamera of alcoholic victims and violent drug addicts tearing from chains. So, without much spoileriness, you can describe the plot of the film "Collector 2", the actors and roles of which, although carefully selected to each other, have earned extremely controversial reviews.
Antagonist
If in the first picture there was a great deal of sadism, then in the second part there is an action, to some extent this is a merit of the leading actors of the film “Collector 2”. The actors showed their best side, one fight on the knives of Luchello and the maniac is worth a lot. Quite a lot of claims from the audience deserved Randall Archer, who embodied the image of a brilliant killer. He did not keep the high bar of his own slasher hero, like the Jeepers-Creepers or Freddy Krueger. In his hero, there was very little frightening mystery, perhaps the lack of a decent experience on the big screen affected it.
Casting cast
American actress Emma Fitzpatrick comparatively played the role of Elena. The girl made her debut on TV in an episodic role in the CSI series (2010). The first work in a big movie was the role in the film "Social Network", then the tapes "Time" and "Collector 2" followed. Actors, colleagues in the workshop, predicted Emma's future successful career in the film industry. The other actors - Lee Tergesen, Christopher MacDonald, Andre Royo, Tim Griffin - played pretty well, you believe their heroes, there is not too much surprise or fear, but, unfortunately, there is also no special emotionality and deep drama. But maybe this is not necessary in such a slasher as "Collector 2". The actors, whose photos adorn the poster, did not respond to the attacks and nit-picking of film critics.
Strange protagonist
Arkin is a very controversial character, Josh Stewart, an American actor, managed to reveal this image in two parts of the picture. Josh gained fame after participating in the television series "Dirt", where he played the role of Holt McLaren. A serious debut in the big movie of the actor took place in 2008, since then he regularly starred in films (including his works The Ghosts of Molly Hartley, Collector, Under the Dark, The Dark Knight: The Return of the Legend, The Walking Dead: Cold Freeze, Collector 2). The actors who worked with Stuart emphasized his talent and professionalism. In 2014, Josh played the role of blind Paul in the movie "Excellence."

The entire storyline of the film is represented by a series (collection) of very painful, painful violent deaths. This, according to the creators, is the artistic value of the film. We will not talk about morality now. In its genre orientation, the picture is made quite high quality. But compared to the first film, "Collector 2" definitely loses a lot. The first film surprised with non-standard plans, the author’s style of shooting, more sophisticated, previously unseen methods of murder. The creators of the second film of the heroes' death "put on the conveyor", the killings became widespread. The sequel turned out to be quite tough. One of the few that has migrated to the sequel is self-irony, which has become a feature of the franchise. The maniac in the film is not a celestial person endowed with supernatural powers, he is an ordinary person with a sick psyche. He is mistaken, he can be injured, he can be run away. And all the non-standard moves from the point of view of genre politics are the highlight of the franchise, which, however, will not prevent it from acquiring the following numerous sequels.
