Childhood and youth

Actress Lyubov Sokolova was born in 1921 in the town of Ivanovo-Voznesensk. Her father - Sergei Maksimovich - worked as a cabinetmaker, her mother - Praskovya Fedorovna - was a seller, and after that she became the director of the store.

For a whole year and a half, Lyubov Sergeevna combined her studies at the pedagogical institute and acting courses, and also managed to earn extra money at the station.

Almost two years after the outbreak of the war, Lyubov Sokolova ended up in Moscow. She decided to continue her studies. She was accepted to VGIK immediately for the second year (the institute was evacuated in Alma-Ata).

The teachers of Sokolova were outstanding masters: Sergey Gerasimov, Olga Pyzhova, Boris Bibikov. Studying was easy for the girl, she was a constant participant in all the performances. And in 1946, actress Lyubov Sokolova graduated with honors. She began to work in the theater-studio of the film actor, and the debut in the movie was not far off.

The war overtook a girl in Leningrad. To somehow help her homeland, Lyubov Sergeyevna got a job at an aircraft factory. She worked parts for aircraft engines.

Her husband George Arapovsky and mother-in-law worked at the same factory. These were hard days of hunger and cold, but Lyubov Sergeyevna managed to survive the blockade and wait for the evacuation. She left Leningrad without a family: her husband and mother-in-law died of starvation. This is one of the most terrible tragedies in the life of an actress.

The "Road of Life" was under constant shelling, but Sokolova was lucky too. She reached Lake Ladoga to the evacuation point, and for some time helped the wounded there. Then she was transported to Ivanovo, and from there to Moscow. After permission from the Minister of Cinematography to study at VGIK, Lyubov Sokolova moved to Kazakhstan, where she was until 1946.

Theater work

The first theater of the actress was the Studio Theater of the film actor, in which she worked almost all her life. However, in 1951, she and several other young actors received an offer to go to Germany and work in the theater of the Group of Soviet Forces. Actress Lyubov Sokolova made this decision without a doubt, because there was practically no work in Moscow, which meant that there was not enough livelihood.

For five years Lyubov Sergeyevna worked in Potsdam, where the base of the drama theater was located. The work was quite intense, the troupe had to constantly travel around, touring all the Soviet military units based in Germany.

Before leaving for Germany, Lyubov Sergeevna played in several films, but these were episodic roles. After 1956, she appeared in the films "Two Lives", "The Ulyanovs Family", "Quiet Flows the Don", "Walking the Hardship." On the set of the last, Sokolova met her future husband, George Danelia.

Years later, on the set of the film “Walking through the agony”, she met a young man beginning a career in directing. George Danelia fell in love with the actress, and soon they began to live together.
