An unforgettable story and colorful actors: "Camp goes to heaven" celebrates its 40th anniversary

Is there still at least one Soviet film in which the plot would be so dramatic and in which the actors would play so passionately? “Camp goes to heaven” is a vivid picture in which the magnificent play of artists, inhuman passions, love and meanness, virtue and baseness are intertwined. Who shot this unforgettable film, and most importantly - who played the main roles in it?

Actors "Tabor Goes to Heaven": S. Tom as Rada

The plot of the film “The Camp Goes to Heaven” focuses on the fate of the gypsy Rada, who was famous throughout the entire region not only for her beauty, but also for her witchcraft abilities. For the time being, the Rada only fascinated men and scoffed at them until it met Loiko Zobar. The young man conquered her heart, and a feeling flared up between Rada and Loiko.

However, it is not so easy to overcome the old habit of breaking hearts: at the last moment, the Council humiliates in front of the whole camp the lover who came to her to marry. Loiko is very ambitious, he does not tolerate such an insult, and the gypsy perishes at the hands of his fiancé.

The role of the unique Rada was played by Svetlana Toma. It was not easy for Svetlana to get used to such a colorful image, however, she was helped by the Moldavian temperament, which her mother passed on to the actress.

For a long time, Svetlana Toma was in close relationship with the director Emil Loteanu, who shot the film “The Camp Goes to Heaven.” Emil invited his beloved to major roles in other films. For example: “Red Glades”, “This is an Instant”, “Echo of a Hot Valley” and others.

Grigore Grigoriu as Loiko

It is clear that the director of the film for the main roles required very bright actors. “Tabor goes to heaven” is a story about gypsy love, from which sparks are poured in all directions and because of which blood is shed. Therefore, Emil Loteanu invited the temperamental Grigore Grigoriu to the role of horse thief Loiko Zobar.

In the story, Loiko is a daring thief. With his tricks, Loiko had already set the whole district against himself. But one day his gypsy Rada took possession of his proud heart. Loiko did not immediately decide to marry her, because for him to say goodbye to the will was like death. However, when Zobar still decides to take this step, the Council inflicts a publicly cruel insult to him. Loiko, in a fit of anger, kills her lover with a knife, and then dies at the hands of her distraught father.

Grigore Grigoriu, like Svetlana Toma, is also not the first to collaborate with Lotyanu: he first made his debut in his film Red Glades, and then appeared in the drama Lautara and the melodrama My Affectionate and Tender Beast.

Ion Shchera as the nobleman Siladi

In the filming of the picture by Emil Loteanu, Moldovan actors took part mainly. "Tabor goes to heaven" was the next film work of the People's Artist of the Moldavian SSR - Ion Sandri Shchera.

Ion played the nobleman and wealthy landowner Antola Siladi. Antol fell in love with the gypsy Radu at first sight. Many, many times he invited the girl to live with him, but each time the Council gave him a tougher fight back, and in the final of the picture he even humiliated his friends for fun. For this, Antol cursed the gypsy, who died on the same day.

Emil Lotyanu with an enviable frequency removed his favorite actors in his films. Ion, apparently, was one of those “favorites”, since he starred in three films of the director at once: “Luchafarul”, “Anna Pavlova” and “Tabor Goes to Heaven”.

Barasbi Mulaev as Makar Chudra

Emil Lotyanu wrote the script for his film based on the work of Maxim Gorky, “Makar Chudra”, as well as “Old Woman Izergil”. And although the plot focus shifted completely to other characters, Emil left these characters in the film: the first was played by Barasbi Mulaev, and the second - St. Petersburg actress Maria Kapnist.

As for Barasby, he is a national artist of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. The artist began his career in 1958 with episodic roles in the films "Avalanche from the Mountains", "Hero of Our Time" and "Stars Do Not Go Out."

Mulaev managed to play the main role only once - in the film "Violent Terek" by Izmail Burnatsev.

Other role performers

One of the few Russian actors involved in the film Lotyanu - is Borislav Brondukov. The viewer knows Borislav thanks to the role of Inspector Lestrade in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, as well as from the films Sportloto-82, Trembita and Afonya. Pavel Andreichenko, a Ukrainian who played the role of Talimon, also took part in the filming.

The role of horse thief Bubuli went to Sergiu Finiti, who can also be seen in the films “The Fortress” and “The Legend of the Brave Knight Fat Frumos”.

The real gypsies were invited to the shooting. Firstly, the artists of the Romen Theater recorded all the songs sounded in the picture. Secondly, the famous artist Lyalya Chernaya appeared on the screen, who rarely acted in films, but was well known to gypsy theater lovers.

Nelli Volshaninova (“The Time for Red Apples”) played Rusalin in the film, Mikhail Shishkov, an artist from the Romen Theater, gypsy Nura, Nikolai Volshaninov, Aralambi, and Vasily Simchich, barina Balinta.
