Being the third largest river in Europe, the Dnieper has always been famous for a large number of fish and good catch. So it was when the ancient Greeks fished in it, calling it Borisfen. The ancient Slavs, who gave it the name Slavutich and built the great Kievan Rus on its banks, did not ignore the river.
Nowadays, the Dnieper is still good fishing. In Kremenchug, for example, there are not only places where the catch is excellent, but also recreation centers that welcome guests with fishing rods all year round.
Dnieper in Kremenchug
Since ancient times, the Dnieper due to the activities of people had to undergo multiple changes not only in the speed of its course, but also in the state of the channel. Multiple hydroelectric power stations built in the Soviet period formed artificial reservoirs, for example, the Kremenchug Sea.
The number and quality of fish in the waters of the Dnieper also changed, but today more than 70 species are found in it. This is why fishing in Kremenchug is attractive, because, despite the fact that it is a large industrial city, the fish population has not changed here.

Kremenchug Sea
The reservoir built in the 60s of the last century became not only a good place for recreation and fishing, but also for fish breeding enterprises. The size of the sea is 149 km long and 28 km wide, which allows not only fishing or hunting under water here, but also engaged in industrial fishing.
The depth of the reservoir reaches 28 m, and its shores are as if created in order to come here for fishing. There are many hidden places, which are convenient to drive directly to by car. In addition to wild fishing, where hundreds of fishermen can be seen at a time in the season, there are well-equipped camp sites on the pond where guests can relax and fish not only from all over Ukraine, but also from neighboring countries.
Especially the fishermen are pleased that the huge number of fish living in these waters allows everyone to leave with a good catch. Fishing in Kremenchug, unfortunately, cannot please the same. Although lovers throw kilograms of bait daily into the Dnieper, fish prefers silence and calm.
To be with the catch, without going far from the city, you have to look for a secluded place where there is no crowding and the noise of the city is not heard.
Winter fishing
As you know, frost is not a hindrance to a real fisherman. Therefore, hundreds of people with fishing rods take winter shuttle buses to go to the Kremenchug Sea for ice fishing. The depth of the pond allows the ice to grip firmly, so here you can see not only people frozen over the holes, but also fishing tents, which allow you to do what you love for many hours even with strong winds and frosts. The most common trophies that end fishing in Kremenchug (winter) are bream and roach.
On the Dnieper in the Kremenchug area, one should be more careful not to get under the ice. This is a navigable river, so the ice should rise so that the movement of the vessels froze. Given that in recent years there has been a clear change in the climate of Ukraine towards warming, fishing in Kremenchug in winter becomes either rare or dangerous.
Recreation facilities
Very close to Kremenchug there are recreation facilities that have committed themselves not only to create comfortable conditions for their guests to relax, but also places with lots of fish.
To really remember fishing in Kremenchug, it is better to rent a cottage at one of the camp sites and enjoy your favorite thing on the weekend, holidays or on vacation.
