Krasnoyarsk synthetic rubber plant: production facilities, product overview

Krasnoyarsk synthetic rubber plant has been manufacturing products since 1947, deliveries are made to 35 countries of the world. Production is more than 42 thousand tons per year, the range includes 85 brands of rubbers. The company is one of the ten world leaders in the industry.

Discovery and Development

In 1947, the Soviet government decided to build a synthetic rubber plant in Siberia. The city of Krasnoyarsk was chosen as the location. According to the development plan, the plant’s products were intended for the needs of the country's military and industrial complexes in those areas where rubber types resistant to aggressive media β€” solvents, lubricants, gasolines β€” were required. The foundation for the first workshops was laid in 1948, production lines were launched in 1952.

The company reached its full design capacity in 1956. After 2 years, the volume of production amounted to thirty thousand tons per year. In 1960-1970, the Krasnoyarsk Synthetic Rubber Plant replenished its product line. New workshops were commissioned, where new types of products were produced. In the early 70s, the company implemented several stages of reconstruction and modernization, which allowed to transfer part of the technological processes to automatic mode.

One of the achievements of those years was the construction of biological treatment facilities, which consolidated industrial and domestic wastewater from residential complexes and industrial facilities. Later, OJSC Krasnoyarsk Synthetic Rubber Plant betrayed them to the balance of the city.

Production expansion

In the mid-1970s, a part of obsolete facilities was closed at the enterprise and several more modernization stages were carried out, which allowed to increase the production of nitrile rubbers up to one hundred thousand tons a year. Along with increasing production volumes, the enterprise faced the issue of environmental protection.

In the next decade, harmful technological processes were abandoned at the Krasnoyarsk synthetic rubber plant, gradually switching to the use of biodegradable emulsifiers. In 1985, the plant for the production of nekal, used since the founding of the plant for the synthesis of rubbers, was completely eliminated.

By 1987, production capacities were increased, the main products of the plant were nitrile rubbers with improved technological properties, produced in a wide range. The total volume of products, marked by high quality indicators, amounted to more than one hundred thousand tons per year, which made the Krasnoyarsk synthetic rubber plant one of the world leaders in terms of production of nitrile rubbers.

In 1990, to expand the product range, the plant planned the construction of several workshops and production lines. Part of the capacity was intended to produce a line of consumer goods. In connection with the collapse of the USSR, plans were not implemented. A rapid decline in production began.

In the new conditions

Krasnoyarsk Synthetic Rubber Plant is an open joint stock company, the enterprise received this status in 1993. Despite such a transformation, production was significantly reduced, almost 70% of the capacities were mothballed. By the end of the 1990s, part of the shops and lines were no longer subject to restoration. The plant saved the entry into the SIBUR holding.

Joining an international company made it possible to establish supplies of raw materials and marketing of finished products. In 2011, after the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Chinese company Sinopec, joint ventures were opened in Shanghai and Krasnoyarsk, butadiene-nitrile rubbers became the main products.

Modernity

At the modern stage of development, KZSC specializes in the production of nitrile rubbers. The total capacity of the enterprise is 42.5 thousand tons of finished product per year. A powder type of rubbers is produced at the plant; the capacity of this line is 500 kilograms in one hour of operation. The finished product is in constant demand among domestic and foreign enterprises. About 70% of all rubber is consumed by China, the remaining 30% is supplied to the domestic market, as well as to the UK, India, Turkey, the USA and other countries.

The products of Krasnoyarsk Synthetic Rubber Plant JSC are for their intended purpose; their consumers are enterprises for the production of cable products, technical asbestos products and rubber products. The plant is the only specialized production company in Russia; its share in the world output of this type of product is 6.2%. At the present stage, production of 85 grades of rubber has been mastered at KZSC.

Production

According to the results of last year (2017), the Krasnoyarsk Synthetic Rubber Plant (TIN 2462004363) produced 38.5 thousand tons of products. Work was carried out to modernize production facilities aimed at improving the performance of equipment and production lines, developing staff, improving safety procedures and other areas of core business.

New equipment was put into operation at the nitrile butadiene rubber separation section, in particular, recuperators were mounted, a new refrigeration unit, and raw material storage tanks were replaced.

Also last year, in the manufacturing center of the Krasnoyarsk synthetic rubber plant, prototypes of new product brands were produced:

  • Cross-linked (used in the manufacture of seals, PVC films).
  • Fast-curing (used for products manufactured by casting methods).
  • Butadiene-nitrile-carboxylate latex (used in the manufacture of gloves for industrial use).

The plant has the following facilities:

  • Six workshops for the production of the main product.
  • Refrigeration shop.
  • Shop auxiliary materials.
  • Pump station for the supply of monomers.
  • Auxiliary production workshops.
  • Transport sections.
  • Repair shops (construction, mechanical repair, instrumentation and automation, electrical workshop).
  • Storage tanks (above-ground for ammonia, butadiene and acrylonitrile; underground for petroleum products).
  • Warehouses for storage of finished products.

Some of the production halls are in a state of conservation.

Products

Krasnoyarsk synthetic rubber plant has maintained its leading position in the domestic market and is a full-cycle enterprise. The company is in the TOP 10 leaders in the production of rubber in the world.

The main types of rubbers:

  • Butyl rubber.
  • Isoprene.
  • Emulsion butadiene-styrene.
  • Mortar butadiene-styrene.
  • Nitrile butadiene.
  • Thermoplastic elastomers.

The infrastructure of the enterprise allows for a full cycle of loading and unloading, storage, without the involvement of partner organizations. KZZK has at its disposal its own flyovers (raw material discharge, shipment of the finished product), access roads (railways, cars), storage facilities for storing raw materials and all types of rubbers. The main supplier of raw materials is the Tobolsk-Neftekhim company, which is part of the SIBUR holding.

Product Application Areas

KZSC produces products necessary for many industries, namely:

  • Rubber products intended for use in aggressive environments (high-pressure hoses, cable sheaths, gaskets, gaskets, conveyor belts, washers, gaskets, rings, plugs, adhesives, etc.).
  • Tire production (side parts, carcass, tread, breaker).
  • Production of car and bicycle cameras.
  • Road construction (improvement of bitumen mixtures).
  • Adhesive materials (adhesive tapes, adhesives for the production of shoes, furniture, construction compounds, etc.).
  • Paper production.
  • Oil industry.
  • Some brands of nitrile butadiene rubber are used in the production of packaging materials for food products, industrial equipment seals, etc.
  • Powder rubber improves the quality and performance of many types of glue, shoes, mastics, and PVC products. Also, this type of product has found application in the production of asbestos technical products (fractional linings, oils, etc.).
  • Drive belts.
  • Construction industry (production of waterproofing materials, paints, moisture-proof wallpapers, etc.).
