How to enter an American college

Today in the USA there are more than three and a half thousand colleges, where several hundred thousand foreign students study, including. Moreover, in recent years, training at American colleges has become increasingly popular among Russian youth.

So, if you are determined to get an education in the USA, then you need to prepare one and a half years before the start of the school year from which you plan to start training.

First of all, you need to contact the college of your choice and ask to send catalogs and booklets with information about the conditions of admission, training programs, etc. In addition, you will be sent a questionnaire (it can also be completed on the college website), which must be filled out, moreover it is recommended to take this very seriously. In particular, such questionnaires often include several thematic questions that need to be answered by writing a short essay. For example, you may be asked which book you recently read or what your future plans are. Based on these written works, the selection committee will draw conclusions about your abilities, personal qualities, ability to clearly and correctly state your thoughts, etc. And try not to overdo it, because if the questionnaire says β€œit is desirable to answer this question within N pages”, then the volume of the essay should be just that, since work with a large number of pages will simply not be read.

It is necessary to register and pass TOEFL or SAT tests depending on the requirements of a particular college (for more details, see Online ), since a document on the results of their delivery is mandatory for admission to college.

You can take the SAT test 5–7 times a year during the year in the USA and some other countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. Testing itself lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes. Passing score - 600 points, and the maximum possible - 2400. The results are calculated on the basis of the results in three parts of the test: writing, text analysis and mathematics.

Applicants planning to study in specialized specialties must pass the Subject Test. For example, American engineering colleges require passing the physics, chemistry or mathematics of the "second level".
Closer to the month of November, you need to send notarized translations of the certificate of secondary education, a medical certificate, as well as the recommendations of the director of the school you graduated from and one of the teachers of basic subjects to the selected college.

At the beginning of spring, you should send a request and make sure that the documents have reached their destination. If everything is in order, then in April-May you will receive an invitation from the selected college. After this, in the summer you should contact the international advisor (adviser) of this college, who is responsible for working with foreign students, who will advise what actions to take in the future.
