Historical information

In the summer of 1914, the State Council adopted the Law on the Ural State Mining University. It was later approved by Emperor Nicholas II. On the yacht "Standard", which belonged to the august person, it was solemnly approved. This event was of great importance in the development of the cultural life of the Urals and the whole country. In the fall of 1915, the first meeting of the Construction Commission took place. The meeting was held in the city council of Yekaterinburg. It approved and approved the project, in accordance with which the Ural State Mining and Geological University was to be built.

Foundation laying

Work began next year. In the summer, the ceremonial laying of the foundation of the Ural Mining Institute took place. This major event was featured in local newspapers. First difficulties

At the initial stage of development, the State Ural Mining University experienced many problems. He needed help and support. Weimarn had considerations in this regard. Moreover, in this case there is no need to obtain material support. It would be quite enough for the State Ural Mining University to bear the name of the emperor. The situation was resolved in just this way. In 1916, members of the Construction Commission turned to the monarch for help. They compiled a petition for the patronage of the royal institute. They needed to ensure that the institution was called the Ural Mining Institute of Emperor Nicholas II. After some time, the monarch gave them permission that the institution bears such a name.

Institute opening

In 1917, it was clear that the Construction Commission did a great job to create the institution. All this activity was led by Weimarn. As a result, it was decided that enough had already been done to open the institute. In the summer of the same year, the Provisional Government gave permission to open admission to the State Ural Mining University. There were difficult times of war. Despite everything, there were a huge number of people who wanted to enter the Ural State Mining University (USMU). The institution’s Council received about six hundred petitions. Among them were statements from graduates of women's and classical gymnasiums, technical, commercial and real schools, theological seminaries, cadet corps, teacher training institutes and other higher educational institutions. About three hundred students were enrolled in the first year. A certain part of them was accepted without an entrance test procedure. This was due to one of the reasons for the high liquidity of the old higher school - it was autonomous.

Solving the issue of enrollment

A large group of graduates of schools in Yekaterinburg filed an application with the Council of the institute. Among these young people was Alexander Nikolayevich Igumnov, who later took up the post of senior researcher at the Mining Institute and is a famous Ural mineralogist. A petition was filed with a request to enroll them in this institution of higher education without entrance examinations. The reason for this request was the lack of funds that were needed to prepare for the tests. This petition was reviewed and supported by the City Council. As a result, the Institute Council decided that it could be satisfied.

State

The Ural State Mining University (Yekaterinburg) had academic staff who did not comply with applicable law. Initially, it employed about seventeen professors and persons performing their duties. Also, 4 associate professors conducted their activities at the institute. The team mainly consisted of cultural, educated and highly qualified specialists. Some of them were graduates of the St. Petersburg Mining Institute and other higher educational institutions. Many members of the teaching staff had a doctorate in foreign universities. For example, from Göttingen, Edinburgh, Geneva and other universities. The Institute Council held its first meeting. The interim government approved the entire list of professors and teachers of the institution. However, the Institute Council decided to re-elect the rector and other significant members of the staff. All necessary measures were taken to resolve all issues regarding teaching.

First educational program

The Ural State Mining University (USMU) accepted applicants for a four-year course of study. It was originally planned to open fourteen departments.
