Injection needle: types and purpose

For medical purposes, needles can be used, which come in various sizes and lengths. They are used for injections or infusions. Today, there are many variations, and all so that painful medical procedures are more comfortable for the patient. Now there are needles for syringe pens, butterfly needles and other varieties that differ in length and diameter.

General description of injectors

Almost everyone knows the direct purpose of a medical syringe. He participates as an auxiliary subject for the introduction of drugs, as well as a fence for laboratory analysis of liquids. The syringe itself is a mini-pump, which can either collect liquid, and then inject it and suck out the liquid components from the body.

Conventionally, a syringe consists of three parts:

  • empty cylindrical body;
  • piston part;
  • the needle itself.

In size, such a device as a syringe may be different. The magnitude of such products depends on the possible set (volume) of fluid in the hollow cylinder. You can buy a syringe of various volumes in a pharmacy. These medical devices are made of polyvinyl chloride and packaged under sterile conditions, one per package. It is allowed to use injectors only once.

Varieties and description of injectors

The injection needle is made of metal in the image of a thin tube, the end of which is cut obliquely, due to which the product becomes as sharp as possible. The other end of the needle is sealed in a plastic cap that fits over the nose of a medical syringe. The length and size of the disposable injection needle may be different, it all depends on the type of injection:

  • intradermal (16 mm);
  • subcutaneous (25 mm);
  • intravenous (40 mm);
  • intramuscular (60 mm).

All varieties have a straight shape and a smooth, notch-like tip with an oblique cut. The cut angle for intravenous injection is 45 degrees, and for subcutaneous - 15 degrees.

All injection-type needles are coated with a silicone compound, which allows to minimize pain during the procedures. As a result, during the injection, it passes without difficulty, and the skin tissue extends, and does not cut through.

The diameter of the needle for syringes and infusions is also different. The diameter depends on the rate of release or intake of liquids:

  • subcutaneous injections have a diameter of not more than 0.5 mm and a length of not more than 16 mm;
  • intramuscular injections include needles from 0.6 to 0.8 mm in diameter and from 3 to 40 mm in length;
  • for infusion purposes (droppers), the diameter is from 0.8 to 1.1 mm, in length - 40 mm.

In cosmetology, an injection needle of the smallest diameters is used for procedures such as mesotherapy.

If the product is foreign, then it is marked with a letter to determine the diameter G, and the size is indicated in inches. Each type of injection must have a dedicated product type. If, for example, an intramuscular injection is performed with an inappropriate needle, the medicine will remain in the subcutaneous layers and will not produce the desired effect.

Syringe pen insulin needles

Insulin is administered subcutaneously, and such a procedure cannot be compared with other types of injection. In order for the administration of insulin to be as painless as possible, the contour of the needles is trihedral. The syringe barrel itself is made in an elongated and narrow shape for ease of storage, wearing and use.

disposable injection needles

This type of syringe provides microfine needles with a size of 5 mm. Such an injection needle is made from high quality medical steel. The microfine rod can be used only once. Such needles are suitable for any syringes like pens.

Used infusion needles

Intravenous infusion of drug solutions, which is carried out by infusion, is performed using a butterfly-type needle. Like all the previous ones, a butterfly can only be used once. Such a needle takes part only in intravenous infusions and punctures. An ordinary injection needle is less convenient for carrying out such specific procedures in medicine.

Butterfly needles are made of high-quality steel, they are different in size in order to find application for veins of different diameters. To attach and fix the butterfly device, special “wings” are available. They are needed to prevent the movement of the needle in the vein during the procedure and not to injure the vein, especially with frequent infusions.

Dental needles

syringe needles

For anesthesia according to the local type in dentistry, 1 ml guards syringes are used. Needles for them are plastic, as well as high quality steel. The length of the injectors ranges from 10 to 41 mm. The needle nozzle on the syringe is made by winding. These rods are quite flexible and very durable. Karpulnye rods provide the most painless injection procedure, as they have a cut at the tip at a very sharp angle.
