It's no secret that “DOA: Dead or Alive” (actors: Jamie Pressley, Holly Valance, Devon Aoki, Sarah Carter, Kane Kosugi, Natasha Malta) is a movie adaptation of the world famous and incredibly popular fighting game for the Play Station. She can be called the sister of Mortal Kombat. But DOA surpasses "Mortal Kombat" in magnificent heroines, bright beach colors and traditional, more for anime, "evangelical" intrigue.
Dual impression
While watching the film causes an ambiguous, ambiguous impression. Many leading film critics explain this phenomenon by the participation in the production of the project of two extraordinary personalities - producer Paul Anderson and director Corey Yuen. Thanks to the efforts of the first, “DOA: dead or alive” has a couple of features of a product of the modern film industry. Namely: elements of aerial acrobatics were added to combat scenes (and battles from unnatural physics were clearly prettier), but the visual series became a hundred times more aggressive (every second match was diluted with a graphic insert from the original game). But toughened censorship gave the authors of DOA: Dead or Alive (the actors all pointed to this fact as one) a significant pig - because of the stated rating, there is not a single drop of blood in the movie, not a single terrible open injury or other injury, therefore even the most furious fights look decent, toothless. And perceived by the beholder is not so emotional.

Plot
Many filmmakers called the plot of the adventure action movie "DOA: Alive or Dead" completely illogical, the actors gave the following narrative description. Kasumi (Devon Aoki) , a ninja girl, finds out that her brother, who went to the elite DOA fight tournament, was killed by one of the participants from Russia. Not wanting to accept the loss, she decides to go after her brother and get to the bottom of the truth. So she finds herself in a group of contestants officially invited to participate in the tournament. On the same day, along with other participants, the heroine gets to an exotic island, where they are met by the owner Donovan (Eric Roberts), explaining the rules of the game. Participants receive a bracelet that allows you to track their movements and the dose of "nanomachines" during a medical examination. The injection injected modifies the fighter: increases the strength, dexterity and speed of reaction of the participants. The name of the participant with whom the hero is to fight is displayed on the bracelet. The actors of the film “DOA: Dead or Alive” call it all a prehistory, after which the continuous battle for the viewer begins with a tempting and unexpected surprise in the finale.

Scenario
Scriptwriters J. Lawton, Adam and Seth Gross, relying on the original computer game (external data of the characters and their biographies), concocted a quite tolerable scenario, involving almost all the characters from the cult game. The actors and roles of the film “DOA: Dead or Alive” are perfectly matched to each other. Everything as one is the most similar in appearance, they have the same manners, habits. Thanks to the costumers, the clothes of movie heroes also coincide with the vestments of computer characters. The directors of the combat episodes took into account their tricks and learned the same with actors.
Inequality
The only sad thing is that the characters were allocated an unequal amount of timekeeping of the tape. In the movie "DOA: Dead or Alive" (male actors did not hide their regret), the whole action revolves around three beauties - Kasumi (Devon Aoki), Tina (Jamie Pressley) and Christie (Holly Valance). The camera in the most favorable angles at every opportunity demonstrates their feminine charms, without breaking out of the PG-13 rating. But as a result, such steep fighters as Leon (Silvio Shimach) or, for example, Zach (Brian J. White) were pushed into the background. And they forgot about Gene Fu (Feng Liu) right away, after the very first round. Therefore, the scheme of fights is shown predictably, uninformatively and sometimes uninterestingly.
Casting and director
The main technogenic intrigue of the movie "DOA: Dead or Alive" was highlighted above. The roles and actors of the film exactly match the game character selection scheme. In the role of the leader of the sea pirates in the picture, “ex-Liu Ken” - Robin Shu twice appears - recalling the fan-made homage of “Mortal Kombat”. In addition, the director managed to get to fight quite decently all the participants in the picture. The fact is that Corey Yuen is one of the main specialists in action films, in which the main characters are women. Therefore, Jamie Presley, Devon Aoki and debutant Holly Valance look on the big screen simply luxuriously, and not only externally. They like the Valkyries fight with everyone around. The male part of the characters does not lag behind dangerous beauties. Wrestler Kevin Nash and Chinese Colin Chow (Ngai Singh), who worked with Yuen in the textbook “Bodyguard from Beijing,” stand out among all.
Valkyries DOA
Jamie Pressley, an American fashion model and actress, made her film debut in 1997. Since then, she appeared in many films, without interrupting the career of the model. For the role of Joy Turner in the TV series “My Name is Earl” receives two Emmy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress. In some films, Pressly played herself, and in the movie "Death to Supermodels" she acted as a producer. The girl hates bed scenes, considering the kiss is intimate. But easily removed in revealing outfits, as in the film "DOA: Dead or Alive" (the actors missed strikes because of her next outfit).
Devon Aoki is an actress and the tallest supermodel in the world, her height does not reach 170 cm. British, German and Japanese blood flows in her veins. In the movie, the girl made her debut in the film “Double Fast and the Furious”, the viewer is known for her films “Sin City”, “Spies”, “War” and “Chronicles of Mutants”.
Holly Valance is an Australian actress, pop singer and model of Anglo-Serbian descent. Her film career began with the Australian series Neighbors, where at the age of 16 she played with Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue. Since 2004, despite some success in musical activity, Valas decides to focus on a career in cinema. For the viewer, the actress is known for her work in separate series - Beauties, Escape, and in films - Blonde in Chocolate, Hostage, and DOA: Dead or Alive.
Summary
Judging by the reviews, the high-level Mortal Kombat director Cory Ewan still could not be achieved. Although, apparently, he did not set himself such a goal. Fans of the game Dead or Alive from its movie adaptation, according to critics, will be delighted. An ordinary ordinary viewer will see just a spectacular picture with an illogical storyline, but with beautiful heroines and furious fights. You can recommend at least viewing this picture.
