The final part of the Expendables franchise has been under development for a long time. It either shows signs of life, or is experiencing the patience of a multi-million army of fans. According to THR, the tape is positioned as an independent project that will have no continuation. There is no official data on casting or information on the start of production, so the release date of The Expendables 4 in Russia is still unknown.
Disappointing forecasts
Despite the fact that there is currently no synopsis of the fourth part, many film critics are skeptical about its artistic value. In the final episode, they predict the progress of old franchise issues and other list-aggravating trends. Many fans of a good action are no longer interested in the release date of the movie The Expendables 4 in Russia due to several reasons:
- Filming in Bulgaria. Franchise producer Avi Lerner intends to save on locations again using the redeemed Bulgarian Boyana Film studio. But the franchise concept implies the participation of Barney Ross mercenaries in missions around the world. The second and third episodes were shot entirely in Bulgaria, the fourth, if it does happen, it will also be filmed there.
- "Twitchy" tonality. The original tape was a gorgeous idea. The fresh concept is embodied impeccably, a balanced balance of action and humor left a positive impression. But the sequel began to have problems. The narrative slid into self-parody. Many characters instead of full participation received minor cameos. The creators of the third part rushed to the other extreme: the narrative and humor drowned in a barrage of senseless and merciless violence.
- The enlarged team. The franchise's flywheel spun truly uncontrollably. The authors constantly replenished the Barney Ross group with new characters, without abandoning the old ones.
- Budget cuts. It also affects the quality of films in this genre.

Loss of Sly
On April 1, 2017, it became known that Sylvester Stallone quarreled with the producer and left the project. After such news, the release date of The Expendables 4 in Russia is now even approximately impossible to name. As reported, the disagreement between filmmakers arose for a number of reasons, among which - the choice of director, special effects and scenario subtleties. Sly, who initiated the franchise, does not want to work further, guided by the principle of "but cheap." Nursing Stallone is a complete disaster for the project. Indeed, in The Expendables, everything rests on Barney Ross; if you remove him, the story will fall apart.
Behind the loss
Later events developed in such a way that the release date of The Expendables 4 in Russia was postponed from 2018 to a later date. Arnold Schwarzenegger said that without Sly there is no team, so he would not play in the movie without Stallone. If other movie stars follow his example? What remains of the group? To build a story on young characters from the third part is not an option, since they are faded and practically not remembered by the audience. After the loss of significant project performers, many domestic viewers will also no longer care about the exact release date of The Expendables 4 in Russia.
Rather alive than dead
Of course, even Lerner understands the crisis situation, so he does not start the production of the final episode, hoping to satisfy all the requirements of Stallone. Without Sly, a producer will not only not assemble a familiar acting ensemble, but will also not lure anyone new. By the way, Sylvester wanted to replenish the casting by Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood, Jackie Chan, Stephen Seagal and other celebrities. Many famous actors wanted to get into the fourth part. The release date of The Expendables 4 in Russia would then be equated to a real holiday. In the meantime, the producer does not recognize the situation as hopeless and keeps up very vigorously. He admits that the argument has dragged on. An agreement has not been reached for a year and a half. But he consoles fans by the fact that 95% of the problems are solved, small production details remain. In his opinion, the project is definitely not dead.
