Hellboy 2. The Golden Army (IMDb: 7.00) is the clearest example of a successful Hollywood film project. It must be watched in order to enjoy the scale and magnificence of filming, the elegant result of the efforts of the artist Stefan Scott and costume designer Sammy Sheldon, the professionalism of the cameraman Guillermo Navarro and the skill of the already canonical director Guillermo del Toro. The film "Hellboy 2", the actors and roles of which were selected to each other in agreement with the director, is worthy of taking pride of place in the movie room of every self-respecting movie fan of the present.
Sequel
The first 2004 Hellboy, dubbed the Great Del Toro Dream Project, is already considered a classic in cinema. The sequel “Hellboy 2” (front-end actors: R. Perlman, D. Hurt, S. Blair) turned out to be even more violent and visionary. The explanation of the director’s creative imagination is elementary: in the original film, del Toro, shackled by the supervisory eye of the producers, was forced to direct his story along the beaten track, but after the commercial success of the first film in the second, it unfolded in full. Of course, in the sequel, as in the original picture, there is also a cool antagonist and a threat to all of humanity, but more important than the plot twists are the characters and the relationship between them. The actors of the film “Hellboy 2” thanks to this had a great opportunity to demonstrate the full range of their talent.
Characters
In the sequel, Abe Sapien (Blue, Ichthyander) comes to the fore, the creators give this character a considerable share of timekeeping. Together with the brutal Hellboy, they form a very funny blue-red screen duo. Well, the episode in which they try to calm the heartache with alcohol, and then they sing a love song, is considered one of the most successful of the entire Hellboy 2 tape. The actors playing the role of these characters sang on their own, which made the scene even more soulful and fun. The main character looks even more charming, blurts out non-stop humorous pangs. As a "fresh stream", the director adds another extraordinary character - Johann Krauss (a certain entity in an almost ancient diving suit). At first he behaves like a dumb soldier, however, as it turns out later, the guy is not at all simple. Liz Sherman regularly “warms up” the atmosphere, the passions between the lovers will not leave indifferent even an inveterate skeptic viewer. Already with these heroes, the picture would be quite worth seeing. But del Toro would not be del Toro if he had not satiated the narrative with versatile monster characters performed at the transcendental level. Critics had no choice but to bring their compliments to the author.

Protagonist and antagonist
The film “Hellboy 2: The Golden Army”, the actors invited to participate in the production of the picture, perceived as an opportunity to fully express their talent. However, both films were called film critics by Ron Perlman's finest hour. The actor shone in the movie Jean-Jacques Annot “The Name of the Rose” in 1986, after which he was forced to play secondary roles or to star in pass-through films like “Police Academy 7”. But Guillermo del Toro gave the performer a unique chance to return to the film Olympus, and the actor took this chance. Of all the well-known superheroes, Hellboy looks the most damn charismatic, although he does not particularly shine with intelligence and his humor is rude. Among other things, his environment is also quite interesting. Ron Perlman, due to his participation in the project, had to refuse another tempting offer - the role of Piccolo in Dragon Ball.
This time, the antagonist confronts the protagonist, at certain times provoking the sympathy and understanding of the audience of the warlike prince Nuad. His ambiguous image was revealed to the viewer by Luke Goss. The British actor, after playing the role of Nomak in Blade II, cannot move away from the images of principled villains. Among the filmography of the artist, the paintings “Tekken”, “Deadly Race 2, 3”, “Blade 2” and “Hellboy 2” are considered especially significant. Goss actors-colleagues noted his amazing ability to transform.
One in three forms
However, performers of other roles turned out to be just as “burning”, of which Doug Jones can be especially distinguished, to whom del Toro threw three characters at once, radically differing in characteristics and manner of behavior. The actor during the film reincarnated as the Ceremonies of the Master, Death, although most of the screen time played the role of Abe Sapien (water). Dag Jones for the most part plays the role of different entities with an abundance of makeup. The viewer knows him from the films "Buffy", "Fantastic Four 2" and "Labyrinth of Faun."
Acting Ensemble
Johanna Kraussa was played by the actor and animator Seth MacFarlane.
The role of Princess Nuala was played by the British actress Anna Walton (Chronicles of the Mutants, Child of Halloween, The Dark Side).
In Hellboy's lover, Liz Sherman reincarnated on the screen of Selma Blair. The actress began her creative career with supporting roles, subsequently rose to a higher level and performed more significant roles in prominent Hollywood film projects "Legally Blonde", "Cutie", "Hellboy 1.2".
The role of King Balor was offered to Christopher Lee, but he refused, citing employment in other projects.
Not all performers from the first film migrated to Hellboy 2. Actors preferred other projects, fearing to become hostages of one role. For example, the agent John John Myers from the 2004 film refused the offers of the producers and took part in the production of “Spider Woman's Kiss”.
