The metro development plan for the near future

The most important part of the urban transport system is the subway. The practice of the existence and development of large megacities convincingly indicates that there simply cannot be a reasonable alternative to it.

How did the Moscow metro develop?

The Moscow subway has been successfully transporting passengers for the eighth decade. its effectiveness is especially pronounced at the beginning of this century, when the sharply increased number of cars led to endless traffic jams on all the main highways of the capital. But the concept of the development of the metro was formed back in the thirties and forties of the last century. For its time, it seemed almost perfect. And only time has shown that this is far from the case. The radial-ring scheme of the metro development led to an overload of the city center with a stream of transit passengers, who, in order to get to the desired station, had to go in the direction of the center, where all existing lines converged. Or follow through the Circle Line with two transfers. This problem only intensified as the city grew in the peripheral direction. The outlying districts became more and more remote, and the number of people in them steadily increased. And at the same time, the understanding of the fact that the metro development scheme should be changed gradually came.

Change concept

It was possible to rid the central part of the city of passengers traveling through it only by laying new lines that would connect the outlying areas. And the new metro development scheme in Moscow primarily involves the design and creation of lines that do not pass through the historic city center, and interchange nodes between them. They are called "chord" lines. Even more fundamentally changing the general concept of the development of the metro infrastructure is the creation of the so-called "light metro" system. It refers to open lines running along the railway exclusion lines in the direction of the largest cities of the Moscow region. For their residents, a significant part of whom work in Moscow, this is more than relevant.

Moscow metro development

On the outskirts of Moscow

The existing metro scheme may change radically after the completion of the construction of four chord lines. They will come to those areas of Moscow where they are currently most needed. These lines will form a single outline. He must connect among themselves all the Moscow suburbs. Organization of movement along it involves a route principle. It is still unknown whether one of the routes will be circular. But if such a decision is made, then in the Moscow metro two ring lines will actually function. The first chord line is already under construction. At the end of 2015, it is planned to commission its first section.

Moscow metro: development for the period until 2020

It is the next five years that the approved plans for the construction of the metro infrastructure apply. And it is currently being built in several directions at once. The metro development plan until 2020 implies the emergence of new stations both in the historical center of the city and on the extensions of existing radial directions. Two currently operating metro lines , Solntsevskaya and Kalininskaya, should become one. In 2019, the launch site of the Kalinin line will pass through the historical center of Moscow. There will be Volkhonka, Plyushchikha, Kutuzovsky Prospekt and Delovoy Tsentr stations on it. Six new stations will open on Dmitrovsky radius, their construction is nearing completion. The oldest Sokolnicheskaya line in Moscow will continue to the Salaryevo station. So far, it is impossible to say anything specifically about construction plans for a more distant period; they are under development.
