Back in 2001, the film “Spy Kids” shot quickly like a rocket, gathering a huge fan base around the world. The adventures of an invincible family in the style of James Bond left few indifferent, and the majority of moviegoers remember the times when this movie was shown endlessly on TV.
Brilliant talent or complete failure?
"Spy Kids" is just such a movie that you can watch as a family without worrying about having explicit scenes or images of excessive cruelty. Here there is good humor, and an interesting plot, and special effects, amazing for that time, and talented actors. The children of the spies in the film were played by Daryl Sabara and Alex PenaVega. Both of them predicted a successful acting career, but, unfortunately, it did not work out too well. All the advantages of “Spy Kids”, however, did not prevent the world from forgetting about this film, especially against the backdrop of all modern film distribution novelties. So the film career of Daryl and Alexa has not yet wondered too much.
So that life does not seem raspberry
It all started with the fact that the actors of “Spy Kids”, having noticed the immense success of the first film, immediately agreed to take part in the filming of subsequent parts. They were not lucky - the third and fourth parts were not asked so much that one of them grabbed even the Golden Raspberry. Even the trendy 3D format has not saved films. This "prestigious" prize was taken with dignity by Sylvester Stallone, but the shadow of "Raspberry" behind the scenes fell throughout the franchise. This is not considered a big problem in Hollywood, so neither Antonio Banderas nor Carla Gugino lost their acting prestige from this. But young actors at the dawn of their careers, Daryl and Alex, had a hard time. Young actors of “Spy Kids” interrupted by low-budget TV shows and tried their best, but the lucky star seemed to specially circumvent them on the tenth road. Alex Pena Vega, then just Vega, was even called one of the most attractive young actresses in the world at that time, but things didn’t go beyond conversations. Young talents turned into "stars of one film", and never appeared in almost any other major project. So, how unlucky is each of them?
TV series
The actors of "Spy Kids" could go far if it were not for the quagmire of series that firmly tightened them. Alex Pena Vega was lucky with projects a little more than her on-screen brother. Over the course of her career, the girl managed to star in 75 films, and her most successful projects include Genetic Opera and Machete Kills. The audience did not learn to take the actress seriously. Now Alexa’s career seems to have gone up, and the actress starred in several fairly large films simultaneously.
In the Spy Kids franchise, the actors and roles were not too serious and certainly not dramatic, but now Alexa shows herself in thrillers (Resident, Remained) and even dramas (23 Blast). It would be foolish to think ahead and put an end to the young actress, because she is only 25 years old, and all her serious roles are yet to come. There is an opinion in cinema that a truly acting talent wakes up only after 30, when life experience itself already tells you with what shade or intonation of a voice it is better to read your monologue. Having climbed out of the serial swamp, PenaVega will still show Jennifer Lawrence, who actually deserves an Oscar.
The best, of course, is ahead
Despite the overwhelming success of the film “Children of Spies”, the actors grew up, but were still considered the same “children of Banderas and Gugino” from the film of the beginning of the 21st century. The audience still perceives Daryl Sabaru as a funny red-haired boy, the screen son of Antonio. Despite this, the actor starred in 68 films, despite the fact that he is not even 25 years old. Daryl was lucky to light up in John Carter: although Taylor Kitsch, who played the main role, completely covered him, the ex-spy got a rather important and noticeable role. Perhaps it is after this picture that the career of the young actor will begin to gain momentum.
Judging by the impressive filmography, the actors of the film “Spy Kids” are very hardworking and talented, so they can very much hope for a personal star on the Walk of Fame. Not everyone was as lucky as Dakota Fanning, who made her way into a great movie at an amazingly young age. As you know, “you can’t easily take a fish out of a pond”, and this motto will certainly help both Daryl and Alex in their careers.
