Fishing on the Volga in the Tver region

Upper Volga

Tver region is located in the region, which has long been called Verkhnevolzhsky. It is here, not far from the old Russian city of Tver, that the great Volga originates. The length of the river in the region is about 700 km, and along this route it takes 150 rivers and streams, and there are more than 1,500 lakes in the region.

But the most interesting, of course, is fishing on the banks of the Volga. The Tver region is generally famous for fishing places, there are only four reservoirs here: Uglich, Ivankov, Rybinsk and Vyshnevolotsk.

The Upper Volga region is rich not only in rivers and lakes, but also in forests. Pine forests, light birch groves and dense spruce forests stretch along the banks of Mother Volga. They are famous for mushroom and berry places, magnificent, saturated with coniferous aroma air and beautiful landscapes. Therefore, recreation and fishing on the Volga in the Tver region attract many lovers of this Russian nature. And what will the catch be? Judging by the reviews, the fishermen will not have to be offended ...

The Volga and reservoirs are rich in fish. There are quite “democratic”, ubiquitous species, such as common carp, ide, silver bream, gudgeon, perch, bream, roach, rudd, bleak and ubiquitous ruff, and among predators - pike, burbot, pike perch and catfish. Whitefish, asp, bersh, river eel, sabrefish, roach are less common, but are also considered quite common prey. Judging by the stories of experienced fishermen, the “tsarist fish” also comes to the Upper Volga region: sturgeon, sterlet and even beluga. But, of course, it is not easy to catch her, especially with ordinary fishing tackle.

The reservoirs changed the relief of the river, there were many estuaries and backwaters, which are considered the best places for fishing. In addition, in ancient times, a glacier moved along this area, and the bottom of the river is very uneven, there are many pits and shallows, and depth differences vary from 3 to 20 meters. Large predators such as burbot and catfish often ambush pits. And on the line of the depth difference you can catch more than a dozen decent perches and zander.

What to catch "white fish" on the Volga

A variety of fish species and large bodies of water oblige the angler to take care of suitable gear and lures.

For catching the so-called white fish - bream, common carp, silver bream, scavenger - an ordinary float fishing rod, donka or feeder is best suited. At the same time, baits and baits are used in a variety of ways - from ordinary worms and maggots to porridges and mixtures cooked according to an intricate recipe. Corn (both steamed and canned), barley, boilies are also successful.

But fishing from the shore with a telescopic fishing rod is good on lakes or small rivers, and if it is the Volga River in the Tver Region, fishing with a feeder will be more successful. Firstly, casting is obtained further, and secondly, the presence of a feeder makes it possible to attract finicky Volga fish.

The best tackle and bait on a predator

As for catching predatory fish for spinning, we must remember that, for example, a pike is easier to catch on a lake than on a river, as it hunts from ambush and prefers thickets and backwaters. But the pike perch loves a fast current, and on the Volga it is expanse.

Therefore, spinningists who are interested in fishing on the Volga in the Tver region, primarily talk about catching zander or a less common bersh. These predators are caught on spinning rods 2.5–3 meters long with an inertia-free reel. Lures can be very different: spinning baits, wobblers, vibration tails.

It should only be remembered that the pike perch has a small mouth, therefore large “pike” spinners will not work, smaller nozzles are needed.

Along with zander, perches are considered enviable prey, especially about a kilogram in weight - humpback. Of course, zander can be caught much larger, but perches - more.

Winter fishing

Due to the complex topography of the bottom and large area, especially on reservoirs, fishing from a boat can be ineffective, and biting from the shore is unstable, and the fish are finicky.

But winter fishing on the Volga in the Tver Region is no less interesting, and often more successful, especially since its season here lasts from late November to April. The advantages of winter fishing, according to fans of sitting on ice, are many:

  • free access to any fishing place - the ice is strong, not only can you get there, you can get there;
  • the fish is not as mobile as in summer, and much more hungry;
  • predatory fish (zander, perch) is kept in one place, and successfully (and correctly) a drilled hole can bring more than a dozen perches;
  • in winter, for fish, oxygen is often more important than food, so the hole - a source of air - becomes in itself a bait.

Fishing on the Volga (Tver region): places

If we talk about the Volga itself, then the most popular with fishermen are the places where tributaries flow into it, such as Shosha (by the way, it contains the famous Zavidovo nature reserve and complex), Soz, Nerl and others.

Fishing is also interesting on the numerous lakes of the Tver region - the Great, Verestovo, Belsky, Volgo and, of course, on Seliger. On lakes, especially small ones, the situation is often more comfortable, and there are no less fish than on the river. A pike, for example, completely prefers lake thickets to open water.

On the banks of the Volga and its tributaries there are many campsites, tourist camps and large complexes, such as “Alexander moor”, “Dream Coast”, “Biosphere”, “Upper Volga Region”, “Green Forest” and many others. There are all conditions not only for comfortable fishing, but also for relaxing with family and friends.

Those who are attracted to fishing on the Volga in the Tver region, most often choose reservoirs.

Upper Volga Reservoir

The Rybinsk Reservoir is famous for the largest variety of fish, and its rather large area is more than 4.5 thousand km², and in some places its width reaches 70 km. Therefore, for a full summer fishing, it is better to have a boat with a motor. In addition, it is not in vain that the local reservoir is often called the sea - in the wind, a wave can break out here seriously.

The Uglich reservoir is much smaller, and its width does not exceed 5 km. The most common fish is bream, but in order to catch, for example, zander or asp, you need to know the places well. The fish here are frightened and cautious due to gravel mining and busy shipping.

The Vyshnevolotsk reservoir is located near the city of Vyshny Volochyok and it plays an important role both in seasonal runoff and in maintaining the water level in the Volga. There are a lot of fish in this reservoir, especially roach, perch, pike, crucian carp, and pike perch.

Ivankovo reservoir

This reservoir is located on the territory of two regions at once - Tver and Moscow. Its area exceeds 300 km ², however, it is smaller than Rybinsk - on average up to 5 m, although there are sections whose depth exceeds 15 m.

The winding coastline, a large number of bays and rivers flowing into the reservoir makes it an ideal place for fishing. The underwater world is surprisingly diverse - at least 30 species of fish. There are bream, pike, pikeperch, rudd, and less common asp, burbot, tench, bluecock, catfish.

At the reservoir, they not only take care of the safety of fish resources, but also breed new species of fish, for example, silver carp, grass carp and carp were introduced into the reservoir. There is even a sterlet.

On the banks of the reservoir there are tourist complexes focused specifically on fishermen, and in the area of Konakovo there are even fishing clubs. Those who are attracted to fishing on the Volga in the Tver Region, the Konakovo River Club will undoubtedly be interesting. It is located on the very shore, and tourists who were there joking that fishing rod can be cast right from the window of a hotel room. There is a shop for anglers and boat and gear rental.

You can also note the fishing club "Sudimir", the base "Pier", "Dynamo", "Lazurnoe" and others.
