Tver region is located in the region, which has long been called Verkhnevolzhsky. It is here, not far from the old Russian city of Tver, that the great Volga originates. There are quite “democratic”, ubiquitous species, such as common carp, ide, silver bream, gudgeon, perch, bream, roach, rudd, bleak and ubiquitous ruff, and among predators - pike, burbot, pike perch and catfish. Whitefish, asp, bersh, river eel, sabrefish, roach are less common, but are also considered quite common prey. Judging by the stories of experienced fishermen, the “tsarist fish” also comes to the Upper Volga region: sturgeon, sterlet and even beluga. But, of course, it is not easy to catch her, especially with ordinary fishing tackle.
The reservoirs changed the relief of the river, there were many estuaries and backwaters, which are considered the best places for fishing. In addition, in ancient times, a glacier moved along this area, and the bottom of the river is very uneven, there are many pits and shallows, and depth differences vary from 3 to 20 meters. Large predators such as burbot and catfish often ambush pits. And on the line of the depth difference you can catch more than a dozen decent perches and zander.
What to catch "white fish" on the Volga
A variety of fish species and large bodies of water oblige the angler to take care of suitable gear and lures.
For catching the so-called white fish - bream, common carp, silver bream, scavenger - an ordinary float fishing rod, donka or feeder is best suited. At the same time, baits and baits are used in a variety of ways - from ordinary worms and maggots to porridges and mixtures cooked according to an intricate recipe. But winter fishing on the Volga in the Tver Region is no less interesting, and often more successful, especially since its season here lasts from late November to April. The advantages of winter fishing, according to fans of sitting on ice, are many:
- free access to any fishing place - the ice is strong, not only can you get there, you can get there;
- the fish is not as mobile as in summer, and much more hungry;
- predatory fish (zander, perch) is kept in one place, and successfully (and correctly) a drilled hole can bring more than a dozen perches;
- in winter, for fish, oxygen is often more important than food, so the hole - a source of air - becomes in itself a bait.

Fishing is also interesting on the numerous lakes of the Tver region - the Great, Verestovo, Belsky, Volgo and, of course, on Seliger. On lakes, especially small ones, the situation is often more comfortable, and there are no less fish than on the river. A pike, for example, completely prefers lake thickets to open water.

Upper Volga Reservoir
The Rybinsk Reservoir is famous for the largest variety of fish, and its rather large area is more than 4.5 thousand km², and in some places its width reaches 70 km. Therefore, for a full summer fishing, it is better to have a boat with a motor. In addition, it is not in vain that the local reservoir is often called the sea - in the wind, a wave can break out here seriously.
The Uglich reservoir is much smaller, and its width does not exceed 5 km. The most common fish is bream, but in order to catch, for example, zander or asp, you need to know the places well. The fish here are frightened and cautious due to gravel mining and busy shipping.
The Vyshnevolotsk reservoir is located near the city of Vyshny Volochyok and it plays an important role both in seasonal runoff and in maintaining the water level in the Volga. There are a lot of fish in this reservoir, especially roach, perch, pike, crucian carp, and pike perch.
Ivankovo reservoir
This reservoir is located on the territory of two regions at once - Tver and Moscow. Its area exceeds 300 km ², however, it is smaller than Rybinsk - on average up to 5 m, although there are sections whose depth exceeds 15 m.
The winding coastline, a large number of bays and rivers flowing into the reservoir makes it an ideal place for fishing. The underwater world is surprisingly diverse - at least 30 species of fish. There are bream, pike, pikeperch, rudd, and less common asp, burbot, tench, bluecock, catfish.
At the reservoir, they not only take care of the safety of fish resources, but also breed new species of fish, for example, silver carp, grass carp and carp were introduced into the reservoir. There is even a sterlet.
On the banks of the reservoir there are tourist complexes focused specifically on fishermen, and in the area of Konakovo there are even fishing clubs.
