The problem of overweight and slimness in our time worries almost every person. Everyone wants to look beautiful, but without a slim, aesthetically attractive body, this is almost impossible to achieve. In addition, overweight is often the cause of various diseases. Accordingly, a fat person cannot be absolutely healthy by definition.
To control weight, a special indicator was created called
the body mass index (abbreviated as BMI), which is the ratio of a personโs weight and height. Using this indicator, you can determine the presence of extra pounds. It is calculated very simply: you need to divide the total
body weight (in kilograms) by the square of growth (in meters). BMI is the norm for both men and women - 22.
Unfortunately, not everyone understands that being underweight is just as dangerous as being overweight. Of course, thinness often looks more decent than drooping fats, but it can bring a lot of problems to the person suffering from it. This is, first of all, fragile, prone to fractures, bones and the absence of menstruation in women. Of course, you canโt start yourself, but you also need to remember that the BMI norm must be observed. Strong distortions in both directions will bring nothing but harm to the body.
Exact compliance with such an indicator as BMI (norm) means that a person is in good physical shape and does not suffer from obesity or painful thinness. The main task of such people is simply to maintain weight at the existing level, as well as to strengthen muscles with the help of physical activity.
The BMI value can fluctuate between indicators from 25 to 27. This stage is called the unattractive word - โobesityโ. In this case, you can already sound the alarm and begin systematic work to reduce weight. The BMI values โโfrom 27 to 29 belong to this stage. People whose
body mass index is within these limits should urgently try to lose weight at least to a value of 25-27 so as not to gradually move to the next - the first stage of weight excess. The term "obesity" (BMI is above normal) already means a fairly large supply of extra pounds, which invariably entail the emergence of a whole bunch of diseases. This can be prevented by losing weight by at least 5-10%. However, in order to completely restore the metabolism and put the figure in order, most likely, without the help of a specialist dietitian, you can not do.
Those who ignored all the warnings of doctors and did not bother with the problem of weight loss quickly enough reach the next stage -
second degree obesity. In this case, the help of a specialist is already required, because a person will simply not be able to establish a nutrition culture and cope with excess weight. In some cases, drug therapy may be required.
The third degree of obesity is the most neglected and dangerous of all that have been listed above. The risk of cardiovascular and oncological diseases, as well as diabetes mellitus, is significantly increased. To combat this mass, most likely, you will need medications, and even surgical intervention.
As practice shows, BMI for women is often much more important than for men. Unfortunately, in most cases, representatives of the stronger sex do not consider it necessary to follow the figure. However, in order to avoid health problems, such a concept as the "BMI norm" should not be an empty phrase for them either.
