Currently, in medical practice, a direction for the study of hormone functions is actively developing. The use of hormone therapy at the present stage has made it possible to use it not only as a replacement therapy, but also as a separate drug that promotes quick and effective recovery. As medicines, hormonal drugs are used in almost all areas of medicine, among them dermatology is most actively using these pharmaceuticals.
Thyroid-stimulating hormone provides control and regulation of the synthesis of hormones by the thyroid gland. TSH norm in children is primarily determined by age. So, in newborns, the hormone level ranges from 1.1 to 17 in terms of international units. In the age group younger than 2.5-3 months, the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone varies from 0.6 to 10. In children up to a year, the upper limit decreases to 7 units. Why do newborns have such a high level of hormones? This is primarily due to the fact that the development of the nervous system of children requires a high level of thyroid hormones. In the process of completing the formation of the nervous system, the level of the latter gradually decreases. It is necessary to control the level of changes in the hormonal background in children, since if the TSH does not decrease, this will indicate congenital hypothyroidism. If untreated, the disease can develop mental retardation.
What is the TTG norm for?
Knowledge of normal levels of hormones is necessary to assess the state of the human endocrine system. So, an excess of thyroid-stimulating hormone levels most often indicates thyroid pathology (hypothyroidism). In addition, a change in the hormonal background in the direction of increase may indicate adrenal insufficiency, pituitary tumors, and even mental illness.
The norm of TSH during pregnancy differs from that for this age group. Upcoming physiological changes in the body of a pregnant woman lead to an increase in thyroid-stimulating hormone. In addition, the TSH norm in women also depends on the phase of the menstrual cycle. An increase in hormone levels can be caused by the use of certain pharmaceuticals, as well as by physical activity.
When does a decrease in TSH level occur?
A low level of the pituitary hormone can be due to both normal (physiological) changes and pathological processes in the human body. TSH norm decreases with starvation, psycho-emotional stress, as well as in the treatment of hormonal drugs. In the case of a pathological condition, a low level of thyroid-stimulating hormone may indicate diseases such as hyperthyroidism, decreased function, or a pituitary injury.
A blood test for hormones is carried out in a specialized laboratory. Blood sampling is performed in the morning on an empty stomach. As already described above, the TTG norm is determined by both the functional state of the body and pathological changes in it. The level of thyroid stimulating hormone in men is slightly lower than in women, while in older people it is even lower due to a slowdown in the activity of physiological processes.
Thus, the level of hormones in general, as well as ttg, in particular, is very high. Changes in indicators allow us to suspect the ongoing pathological changes, conduct additional studies and make a diagnosis. Treatment in this case, if possible, is aimed at eliminating the initiating change in the factor. In the case when this is not possible, substitution therapy is performed.
