Athletics is an ideal sport, as it is the most natural form of physical activity for a person. So what are the rules for athletics competitions? At first glance, it seems that they are not, and there is nothing complicated in it, but is that so? To be "savvy" in this matter, it is necessary to analyze in detail the stages of the competition and preparation for them.
Types of Disciplines
In fact, running is not all athletics. The rules of the competition (running, jumping, throwing) are a bit similar, but still different from each other. Since running is the main athletic sport, it should be focused on it.
Running disciplines are practiced not only among professional athletes, but also among people who simply want to maintain their health and improve their physical condition. Running is the perfect balance between energy costs and stress.
The main types:
- Sprint. Short distance runs from 100 to 400 meters.
- Running with obstacles. The distances are also short and usually do not exceed 400 meters.
- Medium distances and long. The maximum distance is 3 km. Still sometimes long races with obstacles are arranged.
- Cross (cross country).
- Relay race. It happens at different distances. There are even up to 10 km.
- Marathon. Long runs up to 42 km.
It is not necessary to say that, depending on the distance of the distance, there are different requirements for the athlete. If a sprint is carried out, then the athlete should have developed coordination and leg muscles, but marathon races require increased endurance.
The basic rules of athletics competitions
Depending on the type of running, different rules apply.
- If athletes have to run a short distance, then the path must be straight. Larger distances are held on circular tracks.
- If the race is installed at a distance of up to 400 meters, then each athlete runs in a strictly allocated lane. If the distance of the race is more than 600 meters, then all athletes begin to move along their track and before the turn, where they are allowed to go to the common track.
- There are other rules for running athletics. For example, if the distance is more than 1000 meters, then the athletes are allowed a general start, that is, from one track.
- If the rules of the competition provide for a race strictly along the tracks, then their number must clearly coincide with the number of declared athletes.
- If the race distance is more than 200 meters, more than 8 people cannot participate in the competition.
The winner in the competition is the athlete who will quickly overcome the finish line. If the distances are long, then several intersections of the finish line are recorded.
Start
It would seem that it could be easier to start? But the rules for conducting athletics competitions regulate this stage.
If the race is carried out at a distance of not more than 400 meters, then three commands are given:
- "On your marks". Athletes take up the starting position.
- "Attention". Athletes take a stand for the upcoming spurt.
- "March". The movement begins.
If the athlete did not start the movement during the corresponding team, then he receives the first warning. Upon hearing the warning, the competitor must raise his hand up. It is worth noting that if a warning was made twice, then the athlete will be disqualified.
In cross-country events, up to three warnings are allowed.
Motion
Athletics competition rules explain how athletes should move.
So, if the race involves the movement of athletes strictly in lanes, then the athlete must run strictly along the selected track. It is not considered a violation if the athlete inadvertently switched to a neighboring track, but only if he immediately returned to his lane and did not interfere with another competitor.
When cornering, an athleteβs passage to a neighboring track is prohibited. If the athlete violates this rule and takes several steps on the next track on the left, he will be disqualified, as this is considered a reduction in distance. If several steps were taken in the right lane, then no punishment is provided for such an action.
Finish
How the athlete should finish correctly, also cover the drawn up rules of athletics competitions.
The winner is the participant who first crossed the strip. Usually she's imaginary. You can cross the strip with any part of the body, except for the head, neck, hands. If the athlete came first and fell, then such a result is also counted, but only if he independently crossed the finish line.
It also happens that the line is crossed simultaneously by several athletes. Sometimes a photo finish is made, but if it does not help to determine the winner, then in this case the judges decide to run away.
If competitions are held, and the time is measured by a stopwatch, then, as a rule, the result is rounded to tenths, for example, an athlete ran 100 meters in 12.36 seconds, then the result is counted 12.4 seconds. At the same time, there must be a separate stopwatch for each athlete, and the time of the winner is verified by three stopwatch.
Preparation stage
Before preparing for long-distance running, it is necessary to conduct certain training. The fact is that races of several kilometers heavily load the heart muscle and blood vessels, so the athlete must be able to correctly distribute his efforts. For long distances it is necessary to prepare for a long time, alternating the pace of training.
The rules of athletics competitions allow athletes to prepare independently on their own methodology. This stage is not regulated.
Short-distance runners primarily train to develop muscles in their legs and arms.
Another separate stage of preparation requires sprint races. Only very well-trained athletes who are not only physically well-developed, but also able to concentrate and have excellent coordination of movements are released at very short distances . As a rule, sprint winners are experienced runners with great potential.
