In 2009, the cultural community of the Russian Federation lost an outstanding domestic director, writer and screenwriter, who left a rich creative heritage. Only his faithful comrades-in-arms and friends came to say farewell to Aleksandrov Alexander Leonardovich, perhaps because during his life he mercilessly, sometimes cruelly allowed himself to speak about his colleagues and Russian cinema as a whole. At the same time, Aleksandrov did not spare himself either - he did not compromise, did not allow himself to be a hack.

The darkest work
In the track record of the director of film criticism, it is no coincidence that the film “Quench My Sorrows” is singled out. This gloomy film of the end of perestroika is positioned by them as an eerie and extremely tragic movie. It demonstrates the tragedy of entire generations, mired in lack of spirituality and selfishness, absolutely not understanding what is the cause of their misfortunes and troubles. Filmmaker Aleksandrov created a controversial film, many filmmakers scold the tape for being categorical, unsightly in demonstrating abominations - almost all the characters cause hostility, and the interiors are depressingly dirty. Although this is the idea of the author, who hoped that the viewer, seeing the impurity of life, would find the strength to think, be terrified and purify, change for the better.
In the ranks until the last breath
Until his death, Aleksandrov Alexander Leonardovich was in tireless creative search, remained in the ranks. Before his death, he managed to finish work on the script for the project of P. Lungin, which was based on the oratorio "Passion for Matthew" from Bishop Hilarion. The author did not have time to finish the next book, although shocking material was collected in it. In the new work, Aleksandrov was especially severe, did not spare the idols of millions, the most famous and beloved people. This fact is not surprising, it’s enough to recall how sharply Alexandrov showed the other side of the life of actor Vasily Livanov, traditionally hidden from the public. In recent years, he has served as a constant source of information for controversial news on TV and in the print media about the famous personalities of Soviet cinema.
