On May 6, 1940, Starshinov Vyacheslav Ivanovich was born in Moscow, whose family consisted of his father, who worked as a carpenter, his mother, an employee of the Krasny Bogatyr plant, and three sisters. From childhood, Slava Starshinov fell in love with sports. His endurance and training were developed through regular exercise. Boxing taught him patience and perseverance, volleyball gave teamwork skills, his passion for acrobatics contributed to the development of flexibility and coordination.

It is worth noting that in any of these sports young Starshinov showed excellent results, becoming the champion of the capital's competitions. But most of all he liked football, where Vyacheslav regularly showed his scorer qualities. In this game, Vyacheslav Ivanovich Starshinov was able to become the champion of the Soviet Union three times - at the championship of youth teams, as part of the student team of MATI and at the All-Union Spartakiad of Trade Unions.

Hockey

In the mid-fifties of the last century, Vyacheslav Starshinov became interested in the game of hockey. Moreover, he tried his hand at playing both with the ball and with the puck. His starting point in big hockey was the Spartak Children and Youth Sports School. In the season 1957-1958. he was enrolled in the team of masters "Spartak", performing in the all-Union championship. Coach Alexander Igumnov identified Starshinov for the position of the central striker in the troika, which included his brothers Yevgeny and Boris Mayorov. But they did not succeed in a well-coordinated game, and the Mayorovs decisively announced to the coach that they would refuse to play with a new partner. The coach, wise by experience, cooled the fervor of the brothers. In his answer there were prophetic words that Starshinov had to be given a term, and he would join the Union team. It so happened that the Mayorov brothers became close friends with Vyacheslav Starshinov.

Forever with Spartak

Having become a Spartak player at the age of eighteen, Starshinov was faithful to the team for 15 years. Despite the fact that it was more prestigious and more profitable to play for the CSKA hockey club, whose players had direct access to the national team, Vyacheslav Ivanovich never wanted to leave his native club. According to him, loyalty to the red and white flag, he would never have exchanged for either titles or high salaries.

In the eternal confrontation of the two great teams, Starshinov had the opportunity to prove to himself his importance, to be confident in the level of skill. The only thing that Starshinov regretted was that, being a Spartak player, he did not join the Olympic hockey team twice because of his refusal to transfer to CSKA camp.

Ice cruiser

The game in Spartak as part of the strike three with the Mayorov brothers allowed Starshinov to become one of the best central forwards of world hockey. His constant desire to be in the center of the fight and focus on the goal formed in him the image of a real universal hockey player. Starshinov never left martial arts, passionately and passionately fought for the puck in every section of the hockey court. He could easily overtake and beat any opponent with decent speed.

With ardent dedication, Starshinov was substituted under flying washers, despite the risk of serious injury. Such abilities made him indispensable when playing in the minority. Even despite his constant thirst for a goal, Starshinov never left a partner in the game without a transfer, if he noticed that he was in a better position. Also, Vyacheslav Ivanovich was distinguished by a confident game on the patch at the gates of the opponent. None of the opponents managed to withdraw him from his position, Starshinov steadfastly withstood tremors, blows and trips.

And even though his game was stiff, in decisive matches he did not allow himself to violate discipline on the court. Compared to such masters as Almetov and Vikulov, Starshinov’s playing style was not distinguished by the filigree outline technique and prudent actions, but his unsurpassed confidence coupled with power superiority forced the most sophisticated rivals to retreat. No wonder the famous Soviet coach Anatoly Tarasov compared him to a cruiser, fearlessly marching towards danger, with confident calm challenging an opponent to battle.

Team victories

The superiority of the CSKA hockey team in the late fifties and early sixties was unconditional, the Moscow Wings of the Soviets and Dynamo competed in the championship. In 1962, Moscow's Spartak began to declare more confidently its ambitions. Along with the shock Spartak three of the Mayorov brothers and Vyacheslav Starshinov, such masters as Valery Fomenkov, Rauf Bulatov, Alexander Kuznetsov shone in the team . Goalkeeper Anatoly Platov adequately defended his goal.

Spartak was led at that time by Alexander Novokreshchenov, who managed to inspire his wards to win over the most formidable rivals. Despite the skeptical forecasts of specialists, the Spartacists achieved a draw in a decisive match against CSKA and became Union champions.

Five years later, in 1967, Starshinov, as part of Spartak, again won the national title, and after 2 years repeated this achievement.
