This ambiguous and even very gloomy film by Katya Shagalova was released almost ten years ago - in 2008. It begins and ends with Shatunovās famous song āWhite Rosesā, which is very suitable for the mood of the picture. Striking in its oppressive atmosphere is the picture āOnce in the Provinceā. The actors played their roles just fine, created vivid and memorable characters. The film is a contestant of the 30th Moscow International Film Festival.
The events described in the film unfold quickly enough, which allows the audience not to be bored, but to observe with interest the twists and turns.
Impressions of what is happening
You can call a free interpretation of the play "Tram" Desire "series "Once Upon a Time in the Province." The actors and the roles they played showed the usual provincial backwater. Each hero lives his own life, trying not to intersect with his neighbors. Someone sincerely loves, someone desperately hates and even kills, someone is able to sacrifice themselves for the happiness of a loved one, someone just quietly drinks.
The film looks easy, despite a very sad story. After watching, there is some sediment in the soul, because there are thoughts about how can you really live like that? And your life with all the problems and absurdities seems simple, in comparison with how the heroes of the series Once Upon a Time live. The actors who starred in the film are familiar to the audience. The role of Nastya was played by Julia Peresild, Vera - Elvira Bolgova, Kolya - Alexander Golubev, Lena - Lyubov Tolkalina, Angela - Natalia Soldatova.
Storyline: Sister's Arrival
The familiar and measured life of a small provincial town changes at one moment when Nastya, the actress of the popular television series, arrives there. The star of glossy magazines is no longer needed in the capital, so she had to return to her outback to her sister Vera, the only native person. But at home the girl is not very happy, because Vera has enough worries with her husband Kolya. This long-standing conflict of spouses at first prevents one from accepting a sister and sharing with her everything that has accumulated in the soul.
Provincial weekdays
Nastya (for her part) was disappointed in life and in herself. But she is trying to pull herself together and start all over again. She has to plunge into life again, where young people are used to gathering in the evenings in the courtyard of the hostel, where they constantly drink alcohol and fight. They simply have nothing else to do, there are no cultural entertainments in this town. At the same time, everyone wants a big and bright love. Everyone lives his secret life. Nevertheless, it is much easier for the townspeople to pretend that nothing is happening, even if your best friend has entered into a completely unfriendly relationship with your wife.
With the arrival of Nastya, everything seems to explode. Complex relationships of people are now tense to the limit. Secrets are now shared, secrets cease to be secrets. All love relationships are aggravated. It seems to people that now literally everything can change in their life. Random tragedy puts everything in its usual place.
These are the unfortunate events that take place in the film āOnce in the Provinceā. Actors tried to play this life so that the audience did not have the slightest doubt about the reality of what was happening.
Erroneous understanding of freedom
The first thing that catches your eye while watching the film is that despite the cohort of the female part of the cast that you are used to seeing in melodramas, it is not at all āfemaleā - on the contrary, itās cruel, even brutal. In the series there is an invisible imprint of Balabanov's āCargo-200ā, but there is a significant difference: for all its cruelty, Shagalovaās film āOnce in the Provinceā, for which the actors were selected very carefully, can be watched in one breath.
The provincial town is shown by a living organism, a kind of incarnation of Moloch, who seems to feed on its inhabitants. Since none of the citizens changes anything in their hopeless lives, they choose what is much easier to do - they drink. And they drink to the complete rejection of everything that happens around. And only then it seems to them that they gain complete freedom.
But the only thing that citizens are truly free from is prejudice. Messy connections are literally on every corner. But even in this mud of oblivion and numbness there is a place for true love, which grows out of a relationship between Nastya and Che with a tender flower. The guy is the only one who perceives her not as a sexual object, but as a person. Unfortunately, such beautiful flowers cannot live long.
Conclusion
Here it appears before the eyes of the audience āOnce in the provinceā (film 2009). The actors tried to do everything in their power so that the audience could reflect on the situation, so that everyone who watched this tape knew that he was able to make his life better. After all, everything is in our hands.
Be that as it may, the film āOnce Upon a Time in the Provinceā (the actors and their roles in this picture were very real and reliable) showed that for their cowardice and cowardice, for the fact that they did not especially try to make efforts to change their life, the townspeople paid with a huge and terrible tragedy. And yet, what happened to Nastya and Che in no way changed the atmosphere of the town. The next day, everything began as usual: workers in a gray crowd went to the factory slowly, slowly.
To the depths of the soul, the series Once Upon a Time strikes with its gloomy frankness. Actors they tried to do everything in their power to make the audience understand that itās impossible to live like that, all (or almost all) in the hands of the person himself. It is he who can at least try to change his life for the better, as far as possible.
