"Sponge Bob Square Pants" - a serial episode of the American channel Nickelodeon. The episodes combine many genres, including comedy, buffoonery, science fiction, and satire. The premiere of the cartoon fell on 1999, which soon became one of the highest-rated television programs. The release of the third full-length “SpongeBob” is scheduled for July 2020.
History of creation
The idea of the cartoon belongs to Stephen Hillenberg. In the 80s, he worked as a professor of marine biology in California. His favorite pastime was painting the underwater world. In 1987, Hillenberg decided to quit college in order to realize himself as a multiplier. The image of Bikini-Bottom was borrowed from Seattle, located in Washington state. In addition, in many moments of the cartoon, the influence of Stephen’s favorite series “Rescuers of Malibu” can be traced.
A brief description of the fictional world
Mostly the events of the picture unfold in the town of Bikini-Bottom, which is located in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Its inhabitants are sponges, starfish, crabs, whales, octopuses and other underwater inhabitants. Bikini Bottom is equipped with everything that can be found in a real city:
- suburb;
- dormitory area;
- the airport;
- jail;
- bus service;
- colleges;
- hospitals;
- landfills;
- government agencies and more.
Residents read newspapers such as the Bikini Times and Bikini Bottom Inquirer. The musical groups Boys Who Cry and Stingray 5000 perform in the city.
Feature film "SpongeBob"
The director of the animated picture was S. Hillenberg. The premiere took place in 2004. The first full-length SpongeBob is a combination of animation and feature films. The creators planned using this film to complete the production of the entire series, but this did not happen due to a successful rental.
The central heroes of the picture were SpongeBob, Eugene Krabs, Patrick, Plankton, Karen, Squidward, Mindy, Neptune, Dennis, as well as actor David Hasselhoff. The plot is based on the theft of the crown of the Lord of the Sea Kingdom. Plankton blames Mr. Krabs for his crime, directly related to the theft of a crabsburger recipe. The owner of the Cesspool bucket manages to get to the coveted formula. The main character and his best friend Patrick go to the most dangerous places in the ocean, in order to return the crown, on which the life of Krabs depends.
Full-length “SpongeBob in 3D”
The director of the second film, which was released in February 2015, was Paul Tibbit. The picture combines hand-drawn and computer animation, as well as shooting with live actors. The main characters of the sequel are SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Karen, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward, Plankton, Mrs. Puff and others.
The story of the second full-length “SpongeBob” begins with the pirate Burgerbeard, played by A. Banderas, and his team of gulls, who arrived on the Bikini Atoll to steal a magic book. Her magic lies in the fact that everything written on the pages becomes a reality. Initially, the book told a typical story about Plankton's attempts to steal a mysterious crabsburger recipe stored in a bottle. The insidious plan fails again thanks to the Krusty Krab cook and Patrick.

Later, the protagonist of the full-length “SpongeBob SquarePants” tries to tear a secret formula out of Plankton’s clutches, but, unexpectedly for both characters, the bottle evaporates. According to the rules of “Krusty Krab”, a cook has no right to reproduce a crabsburger recipe in any form, including in a dream and even in memory. Without a favorite treat, the inhabitants of Bikini-Bottom lose their minds, and only post-apocalyptic ruins remain from the city. SpongeBob is the only one who is sure of Plankton's innocence. Thus, the hero and the antagonist decide to join forces for the sake of returning the recipe. At the same time, the pirate Burgerbeard writes the word “end” on the page of the magic book, one of the gulls pulls it out and it falls to the bottom of the ocean. In the full-length animated film "SpongeBob", the characters will try to restore their old town to its original form using a time machine.
