Biography Moments

The current world champion was born in the United States of America 31 years ago, or rather, on October 22, 1985. His hometown is Tuscaloosa, which is located in Alabama. It is noteworthy that, being already a fairly wealthy man, the boxer Wilder did not change his permanent place of residence, although he could have done it. By the way, initially the athlete did not want to go in for boxing and planned to connect his fate with basketball or American football, but after he had a daughter who had a serious musculoskeletal system disease, he still decided to concentrate on boxing as a sport, which is able to bring him large financial revenues.

Amator's career

As a boxer, Wilder took place only in 2005 and after a couple of years was able to achieve high results in amateurs. In 2007, he won the prestigious Golden Gloves tournament. He was also able to win the national championship of his homeland. And already in 2008, as part of the US team, he came to a match meeting with the Russian team in Novosibirsk, where he lost ahead of schedule to Evgeny Romanov. However, in the same year, the young boxer Wilder was able to defeat the experienced Rakhim Chakhkiev, who later became the winner of the Beijing Olympics. Deontay himself is the bronze medalist of the Beijing Summer Games.

Professional battles

The American held his debut match in the pro ring on November 15, 2008, Ethan Cox became his first opponent, whom he was able to knock out already in the second three-minute period. This was followed by a successful series of 31 early victories, each of which occurred in the early rounds (Deontay spent no more than four rounds in these battles). First championship belt

In December 2012, Deontay entered the ring to fight with Calvin Price, who had no defeats at that time. The start of the battle turned out to be measured, as both fighters looked closely at each other. However, already in the third round, Wilder struck the most powerful right-hand cross, after which his opponent was in the deepest knockout. Thus, Deontay received the belt of the champion of continental America according to the WBC.

The battle with Lyakhovich

In August 2013, Deontay held a duel with the representative of Belarus Sergey Lyakhovich. The fight lasted less than one round. Wilder forced the opponent to snuggle up to the ropes and there he literally bombed him, hard knocking him out with a blow of his right hand. The knockout was so heavy that Lyakhovich began to convulse, and the doctors carried a stretcher into the ring, which in the end was not needed, since the Belarusian was still able to get up and leave the battlefield on his own.

Qualifying fight

In the spring of 2014, the American met with his compatriot Malik Scott in a fight for the right to receive the status of an official contender for the world title. It is worth noting that the duel between these two athletes lasted only 96 seconds and caused a lot of controversy. And all because Scott lost by knockout, and many considered the defeat a simulation on his part. However, as they say, the winners are not judged, and Wilder got the opportunity to meet with then-reigning champion Bermaine Steven.

New champion

In a duel with the Canadian, Deontay for the first time in his boxing career went the entire distance of 12 rounds. The battle itself was dictated by an American who was able to impose his tactics on the champion. As it turned out later, Wilder fought with an injured hand and a damaged right eye.
