In the past two decades, the word “corruption” has been spoken in almost every language. Everyone has heard something about her, they know something. Everyone is talking about her, but some have not even seen her! However, the problem is that not everyone can explain what corruption is, few people understand the very essence of this term.
Well, let’s try to understand this phenomenon. The word "corruption", derived from the Latin "corrumpere", in translation means "to corrupt." This term refers to the use by a certain official of his political or other authority in order to his personal gain, it should be noted that such actions are contrary to the law and moral rules of any country in the world.
Anti-corruption rating
There is a world rating of anti-corruption struggle. The higher the index in the ranking, the less bribery is present in this country. For six years, from 2004 to 2010, Russia lowered its index from 2.8, which amounted to 90th place, to 2.1, and this is 154th place out of 178.
Corruption, which destroys the state system and affects all institutions, is characteristic of third world countries in which the economy is not well developed. The leaders of the anti-corruption list are New Zealand and Singapore with indices of 9.3 and Sweden with Finland with indices of 9.2. In these countries, none of the residents knows what corruption is, unlike the citizens of the Russian Federation.
What is corruption in Russia?
Bribery in Russia began during the transition of the state to the commodity-money type of relationship in the early 90s. Small businessmen did not skimp on money handouts by a senior official for the “correct” solution of necessary matters and questions. At the same time, corruption is the reason for the constant rise in prices of goods and services, which is why most of the country's population is under attack. Thus, the economy is undergoing degradation, which will end very deplorably in the near future. Before the corrupt government, the people do not feel any protection and begin to accumulate resentment in themselves, which in the end can lead to riots and revolutions, which in turn can become the final outcome of the country. No wonder Dmitry Medvedev said that corruption is a serious threat to the national security of the state. However, in 2007, the head of the country's anti-corruption committee, Kirill Kabanov, made an open statement that the fight against bribery in the country is more like a performance and imitation than real attempts to counter this problem.
Anti-corruption Day Celebrations
Anti-corruption day is international and celebrated on December 9 at the initiative of the UN. This day even has a semblance of a slogan telling us that corruption and success are two incompatible concepts. It was on this day in Merida, in the Mexican city, that a high-level political conference was held on the topic “What is corruption?”, During which the UN Convention to Combat this Problem was signed. The convention obliges states to declare bribes, the use of budgetary funds for personal gain, and criminal proceeds of crime. Hans Corell called on more than a hundred country representatives to establish a day to deal with the problem. On this day, seminars, processions and demonstrations, meetings and conferences on the topic of the fight against corruption are held in many countries.
