Fans of thrilling science fiction books and films know very well who Dea Toris is. However, some people have not heard anything about this character. So to talk about it in more detail will not be superfluous.
Who is she?
All fans of the works of Edgar Burroughs, who also gave Tarzan the world, are familiar with Day Toris. The Princess of Mars became the first book of a famous writer where this character appears. It refers to the race of red Martians - very close to people in appearance and size.
The heroine is the legitimate heiress of Helium - one of the most powerful city-states on Mars, which is ruled by her grandfather Morse Kayak. With the main character - John Carter - she meets when the ship of the Red Martians was shot at and captured by Tarks - green Martians of great stature, ferocious, not knowing love and pity. John not only saves her, but also takes care afterwards, protects, does everything to bring her home to his native Helium, although he seriously insults her several times, not really understanding the customs and customs of the Red Martians.
Subsequently, she became Carter's wife, and when he left Mars - it seemed forever - she went on a suicidal journey to the Dor Valley, not reaching the millennial age, as is customary. She gave birth to her husband two children - son Kartoris and daughter Tara.
Appearance
The appearance of Dei Toris is described in some detail in the first book of the series - "Princess of Mars". Edgar Burroughs describes her as an amazingly beautiful woman - perhaps the most beautiful on an endangered planet.
Each oval-shaped face is striking in its sophistication. The eyes are huge, shiny. The hair is very long, pitch black, laid in a strange, but very elegant hairstyle. The skin, like all red Martians, has a shade of reddish copper. Cheeks are rosy, and surprisingly delicately carved lips color reminiscent of a ruby.
Like most representatives of the Martians do not wear clothes - this is not condemned by morals and is possible due to the warm climate of Mars (at the time of Burroughs relatively little was known about this red planet). The only outfit was jewelry of the finest work.

Edgar Burroughs wrote many books included in the Martian cycle. These are eleven novels and seven stories. However, Dea Toris, like John Carter, is not present in all.
The heroine plays an important role in only a few books: the first three, eighth and eleventh. In other works, she is either an episodic hero, or is simply mentioned briefly.
However, it turned out to be so colorful that other famous science fiction writers included it in their works. For example, Robert Heinlein, George Effinger, David Weber, Hongot Diaz. In some cases, Deya Toris is simply the name of one of the characters, in others - just a mention of the heroine from the works of Burroughs.
Movie appearances
Alas, it cannot be said that the Martian cycle of Edgar Burroughs boasts successful adaptations. Most films were simply abandoned at the filming stage. But the filmmakers tried to film the novels during the life of the writer.
The first film still shot to the end and released on the screens was the "Princess of Mars" - in 2009. Alas, it has practically nothing to do with the original book - only the main races from the Red Planet and the names of the main characters are taken. Here, Dayu Toris actress Tracy Lords performed. This is not to say that she flawlessly coped with the task.
Only slightly better went with the more famous film "John Carter", released by Disney in 2012. Here the beautiful Martian was played by Lynn Collins. The opinions of critics were divided. Some believe that the actress was chosen very poorly, while others argue that it is she who is the only thing worth watching a movie for. Unfortunately, the plot was also conveyed very distantly, extremely simplistically, which caused a storm of indignation from fans of the book.
Comics
Deya Toris appeared in comics. This popular genre in the USA allowed many readers to meet an interesting character.
The first appearance was the adaptation of the Burrows Martian cycle. However, not only that. For example, in 1995, she suddenly appeared in comics telling about the adventures of Tarzan. In addition, mention of her can be found in the second volume of the League of Outstanding Gentlemen, where Gulliver Jones and John Carter talk.
From 2010 to 2012, a whole series of comics based on the novel "Princess of Mars" was released. It gained a certain popularity, as a result of which a separate spin-off was released - "The Lords of Mars: Day Toris. Its main character was the Martian princess. John Carter is not even mentioned here. No wonder - the action takes place 400 years before the earthling first stepped onto the surface of Mars, a bit later an additional episode of The Pirate Queen of Mars was released.
Finally, the name "Deya Toris" was given to a spaceship in one of the editions of the striking X-Men comic strip.
