A non-contact thermometer, or pyrometer, is a device for measuring body temperature and other objects. The history of the creation of this device, its types and principle of action, we will consider a little lower.
Main purpose
A non-contact thermometer is actively used for remote or remote determination of body temperature, objects in the housing and utilities sector, industry, everyday life, as well as in various enterprises (in the steel and oil refining fields). The basic principle of operation of such a device is based on a peculiar measurement of the heat power of an object in the ranges of visible light or infrared radiation.
A non-contact thermometer is an ideal tool for the safe measurement of temperatures of extremely hot objects. This fact makes them practically indispensable for providing the necessary control in those cases when physical interaction with any object is impossible due to its extremely high temperatures.
It should also be noted that today there are also such models of non-contact thermometers that are intended for medical purposes. So, with a pyrometer, you can remotely measure the body temperature of a child or an adult during his sleep, while not disturbing the patient.
History of creation
The very first non-contact thermometer was invented by Peter van Mushenbrook. Initially, the term “pyrometer” was applied only to those devices that were designed to measure visual temperature, that is, by the degree of brightness and color of a hot object. Today, the meaning of this word is somewhat expanded. For example, it is more appropriate to call some types of non-contact thermometers infrared radiometers, because they measure fairly low temperatures. By the way, it was from industrial pyrometers that similar medical devices originated.
Types of Pyrometers
A non-contact thermometer, reviews of which are only positive, is divided into the following types:
- Optical Such pyrometers allow you to visually determine the exact temperature of a heated human body. This happens by instantly comparing its shade with the color of the thread (reference).
- Radiation . These non-contact thermometers determine the temperature using a converted indicator of radiation power (thermal).
- Color, spectral or multispectral . The pyrometers presented make conclusions about the temperature of an object, comparing its thermal radiation in various spectra.
Medical non-contact thermometers
The advantages of such partitions for measuring body temperature include:
- ergonomic and beautiful design (quite comfortable in the hand);
- the ability to measure the temperature of any other surface;
- small size (the length of the device is only 15 centimeters);
- accurate forehead temperature measurements;
- the possibility of election ℉ or ℃;
- easy setting of a specific temperature value at which an audible signal will sound ;
- memory for the last 32 measurements;
- LCD backlight.
It is also worth noting that a non-contact thermometer, the price of which varies between 1.2-3 thousand rubles, can automatically hold data and turn off the power.
