The actions of the tape begin 15 years after the events of the first part ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") and five years after the second part under the name "Planet of the Apes: Revolution."
By this time, the US military is actively fighting against the amazing speed of growing monkeys. They are led by chimpanzees Caesar. In the forest, they are attacked by the Alpha Omega group. They have monkeys in the service. Many dismissively call them "mongrels." They were supporters of Koba, who organized a failed rebellion against Caesar, and was destroyed.
During an armed clash, several monkeys are captured. Caesar declares to them that he did not start the war. All that the monkey leader now seeks is the security of his family and his fellow tribesmen. The captives say that the brutal Colonel commands the Alpha Omega detachment.
Caesar imprisons only Red, freeing the rest. So he seeks to make peace. But Red manages to escape. Not wanting big sacrifices among the monkeys, Caesar wants to lead his close ones through the desert.
According to the plot “Planets of the Apes: War”, the Colonel penetrates the camp the night before the campaign. He takes the life of Caesar's wife and his eldest son. By that time, Winter is betraying his boss and goes over to the side of Alpha Omega.
Revenge to the Colonel
Caesar decides to take revenge. He is accompanied by several close associates, the rest go on a journey through the desert.
At the Alpha Omega camp, Caesar meets Winter. From him he learns that the Colonel is in a place known as the border. Along the way, they find several shot soldiers of the enemy, it turns out that some of them can not speak.
The meeting with the Bad Monkey is important. This is a smart chimpanzee hermit who lived in the zoo before the pandemic. He says that the soldiers are in the camp, which was converted into a quarantine zone during the first spread of the virus.
At the border checkpoint, Luka is killed when he covers Caesar with his body from the Alpha Omega patrol. Caesar continues on his own. Soon he is captured, learns that his clan was also captured. Now they are forced to build a wall without water and food.
Colonel demonstrates to Caesar that the virus has mutated. Now it makes people lose their speech and fall to their primeval state. The protagonist understands that at the facility, the Colonel intends to repel the attack of the US military, who plan to destroy it. After all, he kills all infected people, even his son, preventing the spread of the virus. He claims to be trying to save humanity.
With the help of the Bad Monkey, Caesar finds a tunnel through which he orders everyone to escape, and he himself goes to the Colonel. It turns out that the virus also infected him. He commits suicide, not wanting to turn into an animal.
Meanwhile, a battle is taking place between the military and Alpha Omega. Caesar arranges a massive explosion that destroys the detachment and allows the military to prevail. However, they do not rejoice in victory for long, they are covered by an avalanche, from which Caesar and other monkeys flee in the trees.
Survivors of the Caesar clan set off through the desert to find an oasis. Maurice discovers that Caesar was seriously injured in the battle. He promises that his youngest son will surely find out what his father was fighting for. In the finale, Caesar dies.

Almost all actors deserve high marks and praise. But especially noted Serkis, who played the role of Caesar. This is a wise and harsh leader, even ready to sacrifice himself, for the benefit of his family and tribesmen.
In the reviews of the film “Planet of the Apes: War” (2017), viewers and critics admit that this is one of the best adaptations in the last few years. This blockbuster managed to go beyond the standard framework. He offered the viewer not only entertainment, but a spectacle that makes you seriously think. For example, about civilization and the place of man in it.
True, there were also negative reviews. But it is worth recognizing that there were a minority of them. Those who did not like the film noted that the action was very long - the picture lasts more than two hours. The main character (Caesar) seemed to some to be a limp monkey, having the habits of a reflecting intellectual. Many scenes are contrived, the miscalculations of the military are so obvious that they seem far-fetched. Because of this, there is a feeling that there is absolutely no logic in the actions of the characters.
