Magnetotherapy: contraindications, therapeutic effect and recommendations

During magnetotherapy, artificially generated magnetic fields are used. Due to their impact, the state of various organs and tissues is normalized in the patient’s body, and disturbed biorhythms are restored. Magnetotherapy has a strong anti-inflammatory and decongestant effect, effectively relieves pain of various origins. It has a regenerating and anti-aging effect, improves lymph and blood circulation.

Magnetotherapy is indicated for various diseases of the joints and bones - for example, bursitis, arthritis. The use of physiotherapy based on the effect of a magnetic field accelerates the healing of fractures and the healing of bruises. Magnetic therapy for arthrosis brings significant relief: it eliminates pain and swelling, improves the nutrition of cartilage. It is indicated for diseases of the spine. So, magnetotherapy for osteochondrosis, spondylosis or radiculitis effectively fights inflammation and spastic phenomena, as a result of which pains tormenting the patient, often quite noticeable, pass without a trace.

This method of physiotherapy is also effective for vascular diseases: thrombophlebitis, venous insufficiency. Long non-healing wounds and trophic ulcers heal after this procedure much faster, and allergic manifestations on the skin disappear without a trace. Magnetotherapy, contraindications to which should be considered when appointing it, also helps to get rid of inflammatory gynecological diseases. In addition, for many years this method has been used to treat eye diseases - amblyopia, myopia, accommodation disorders. It can be recommended as a prophylaxis for people working in constant eye strain, as well as for the treatment of inflammation of the mucous membranes of the eyes (conjunctivitis), barley and blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids). And this is not a complete list of diseases in which this physiotherapeutic procedure can improve the patient's condition.

Generation of a magnetic field with specified characteristics is carried out by special devices. Magnetic fields can be both constant and variable. Their mode (pulse or continuous), the duration of the pulses and their frequency can vary, depending on the instructions of the physiotherapist. The patient does not experience any discomfort: the procedure is completely painless and has no side effects. At the same time, magnetotherapy, the contraindications of which cannot be ignored, in some cases can cause a deterioration in the patient's well-being. This situation indicates that he may have hidden ailments that he does not yet know about, or that the contraindications to the procedure have not been taken into account. So, magnetotherapy cannot be used in acute forms of circulatory disorders, severe hypertension, cardiovascular failure, endocrine diseases, and tumor processes. You should not risk those who have clotting disorders, as well as women who are expecting a baby.

Magnetic field treatment can be carried out at home: often it is no less effective than hardware magnetotherapy, the contraindications to which are quite serious. For this, portable hand-held devices are usually used, with the help of which effect on individual parts of the body with severe pain is carried out. Some of them are able to exert a combined effect using not only a magnetic field, but also light radiation with certain parameters. In addition, at home, you can use acupuncture treatments by acting on small points with active magnets. Wearing magnetic bracelets also gives a good effect for many diseases .

These treatments can be used by most patients. For those for whom other physiotherapy procedures (UHF, electrophoresis) cannot be recommended for health reasons, sparing home magnetotherapy can bring relief. There are practically no contraindications to it, however, a doctor’s consultation, especially for the elderly, is still necessary before its use.
